Irish Poker Championships
PokerEvents, founders of the inaugural Irish Poker Tour, has joined forces with Boylepoker.com to create the Irish Poker Championships. This is the first-ever large-payout tournament Ireland.
The Irish Championship consists of a series of nationwide events. To qualify for the series, players will compete in weekly satellites that feed into regional super satellites. Top players from the super satellites will qualify for the national final, appropriately named All Ireland Poker Finals, which will take place in Dublin in January.
The final event is certain to bring out some of Europe's biggest poker names because of its €1,000 buy-in (Euros) freeze-out event with an Ireland tournament record €500,000 prize pool (roughly $600,000 US). According to event promoter Fintain Gavin in a recent Galway Advertiser article, the series will propel the country to the front of the European poker community.
"This will be one of the biggest poker tournaments ever staged in Europe," Gavin said in the article. He cited the big payout and size of the three-day final event as motivations for top players like Marcel Luske, the Hendon Mob, Gus Hansen, and other European poker aces to come and play.
"The main tournament will be a three day event giving the best players time to come out on top," Gavin said.
The tournament has a capacity of 500 players and will feature players from all over Europe. The event is set to be broadcast live on television and will give players points toward the official European Poker League.
Supporting events will include €500 and €250 buy-ins that will have payouts of €100,000 and €75,000 respectively. In addition to playing in the live events, players can also qualify online at Boylepoker.com, a new online poker site from Boylesports, Ireland's premier independent bookmaker.
