Team PokerStars Pro Adds Horecki, Gomes
Team PokerStars Pro has added two more members in recent days, in Poland's Marcin Horecki and Brazil's Alexandre Gomes. Horecki, one of the highest-ranking Polish players ever, is among a handful of emerging names who came to poker by way of the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering, and has had several nice finishes in recent European events. Gomes, the breakthrough winner of Event #48, $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em, in this year's WSOP, represents a part of PokerStars' new efforts into the emerging South American poker market.
Horecki, in addition to his Magic training, was once a member of Poland's national alpine ski team, before injuries halted that career. Horecki began a career in corporate finance while also building up a bankroll on Stars, beginning at the smallest tables and working his way up. Horecki has also become a regular face at major European poker stops, and has picked up three cashes in EPT events since 2006.
Gomes joins countryman Andr Akkari on Team PokerStars Pro as part of the site's public face toward Brazil and South America. The 25-year-old is another online veteran, known on Stars as "Allingomes", whose breakthrough WSOP win was worth an astonishing $770,540. Gomes triumphed at a final table featuring Marco Johnson, Kirill Gerasimov and other formidable foes. The $770,540 cash is easily the largest of Gomes' career, and represents his first significant "live" cash. It is also the first-ever WSOP bracelet captured by Gomes, who now has to think about poker as a career in addition to his training as a lawyer.
