Borgata Announces $2 Million Guaranteed Prize Pool for Winter Poker Open Main Event 0001

Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa recently announced details of the casino's annual Borgata Winter Poker Open. This year's 16-day tournament series, which runs from January 20 through February 5, 2010, features a $2 million guaranteed prize pool for the Main Event championship along with a variety of poker formats designed to please the East Coast poker masses.

According to Joe Lupo, Borgata's senior vice president of operations, this year's WPO once again gives poker players on the eastern seaboard something to look forward to in January.

"We are very excited to kick off 2010 with our fifth annual Borgata Winter Open, which will be the premier tournament of its kind on the East Coast. Poker has always been a main focus at Borgata and we continue to be committed to providing our customers the best experience, not just in Atlantic City, but on the East Coast. We are offering a $2 million guaranteed prize pool, launching our program in a big way, while offering our players what they want, Lupo said.

In addition to the $2 million guaranteed Main Event ($3,300 buy-in + $200 entry), Borgata will offer a special $100,000 No Limit Hold'em tournament, No Limit Holdem 6-handed, Ladies No Limit Holdem, Deep Stack No Limit Holdem, Limit, H.O.S.E., Seven Card Stud and Heads Up Double Elimination events.

A player favorite, the WPO has provided plenty of drama during its five-year history, including last year's WPO Main Event winner Steve Weinstein's improbable run, which saw him make the leap from 17th place to first in one day. Weinstein collected $658,405 for the win.

Borgata offers players special room rates during the event with rooms for $79 (Sun - Thurs), $139 (Fri), and $179 (Sat) as well as offering online event registration through January 14, 2010. On-site registration begins January 16, 2010.
