World Poker Tour London

The inaugural World Poker Tour London is under way. Day 1a wasn't lacking in the "heavy-hitters" category, as Phil Ivey, Erik Seidel, Luke Schwartz, Andrew Robl, and Roland de Wolfe were part of the 72 players who entered the day. It was Seidel who finished the day as the chip leader with 226,200 in chips. Ivey is in fourth place with 146,200. All that could change, however, depending on how the chips fall on Day 1b.

Tatjana Pasalic caught up with Phil Ivey for a little chat about his thoughts on the tournament.

Chris Moorman, Neil Channing, Frank Kassela, Barry Shulman, and Freddy Deeb are among the Day 1b players. Registration is open until level eight, which will be the first level on Wednesday, so official numbers aren't in yet.

The PartyPoker Blog has all the action from London's Mayfair Palm Beach Casino.

Looking Up

The World Cup threw888 Holdings a curve ball this summer. The firm credits the World Cup for its 43 percent drop in online poker revenues in June. Things are looking up in August, however. The firm reports that revenue for poker has jumped 15 percent in August, which has returned things to normal for the time of year.

"The market has been challenging on a number of fronts, from the weak economic environment and overall poker weakness to the impact of the World Cup on poker and casino activity," chief executiveGigi Levy said.

888poker has rolled out new software along with a 3D casino to offer players an improved user experience. Following the bwin and PartyGaming's line of thinking, the firm is considering potential mergers, as well.

"We look at consolidation as one of the possible routes to realising our full value and feel that longer term this is the direction the industry will take," said Levy. "We have always stated that we will look into all relevant deals and expect the recent merger news to accelerate such discussions in the industry."
