WSOP-C Horseshoe Hammond Regional Championship Day 4: Anderson Wins!
The World Series of Poker Circuit held its first-ever $10,000 Regional Championship this week; it concluded last night with Jim Anderson emerging victorious. Anderson conquered a final table packed with top professionals Bernard Lee, Dave Doc Sands, Shannon Shorr and Brandon Adams.
A former bartender, Anderson was just another unknown face in the field of 226 a few days ago when this all began. By making this final table, he already had earned a seat in the National Championship at the end of the season when he will have the opportunity to go for more cash and even a WSOP gold bracelet. With last nights victory, Anderson became the champion of the first-ever Regional Championship. Anderson claimed over $525,000 after besting quite the stacked field of entrants. He also took home a big, shiny WSOP Circuit gold championship ring.
Anderson came into the final table sitting sixth in chips out of the remaining nine players. About an hour into play, Anderson found a double through Shorr. Anderson held two aces when Shorr picked up two queens and all the money went in preflop.
About two hours after that, Anderson found another double through Shorr. This time it wasnt so much as a preflop cooler. Shorr shoved from the small blind after Anderson had raised the button. Anderson was up to the task and called all in with the A?10?, dominating Shorrs A?5?. Anderson went on to make two pair and saw his stack swell to over 1.2 million.
Not much happened for Anderson over the next couple of hours after he doubled through Shorr. Play was down to three-handed, and Anderson had picked his spots nicely to stay afloat. Then, all of a sudden, he decided to play a massive pot with Gabe Patgorski and the whole feel of the tournament changed. Heres how it went down.
Anderson raised from the button to 90,000. Patgorski tanked for a bit from the small blind and then reraised to 300,000. Anderson didn't budge. He sat motionless for a bit and then four-bet to 650,000. Patgorski tanked for a bit then before asking how much Anderson had behind. The tournament staff helped to get a count on Anderson's stack and informed Patgorski, who then tanked for a little while longer. Patgorski eventually put his head down for a few moments before rising and announcing that he was all-in. Anderson called, and a five-million chip pot was created.
Patgorski: A?6?
Anderson: J?J?
The flop came down J?9?3? and Anderson picked up a set. The turn brought the Q?, which meant that Patgorski was still in this thing, needing a heart on the river that didn't pair the board to win the hand. The river completed the board with the Q? and although it was red, it wasn't a heart. When the chips were counted down, Anderson was all-in for 2.4 million total and Patgorski sent over the chips. Patgorski was left with around one million in chips.
When the dust settled, Anderson had a huge lead on both Lee and Patgorski. Lee then fell to Patgorski in third place to set up a heads-up battle that only lasted a few hands. At the beginning of the match, Anderson had 4.95 million chips to Patgorskis 1.83 million.
Patgorski won some small pots but couldnt win the big one that mattered. Maybe thats because Anderson woke up with two aces when Patgorski tried to get all his money in.
On the button, Patgorski raised to 125,000. Anderson put in a three-bet to 325,000 and Patgorski went into the tank. He thought for a few minutes and then four-bet to 655,000. Anderson paused, asked how much Patgorski had behind and then announced that he was all-in. Patgorski made the call for the rest of his stack and the cards were revealed. Patgorski saw the bad news that his A?J? was crushed by the A?A? for Anderson. After the board ran out 8?7?3?7?J?, it was all over and Anderson was the champion.
