WCOOP Day 11: Alexander Debus and Vincent Van Der Fluit Claim WCOOP Bracelets
We officially hit the midway point of the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker on Wednesday with 31 of the 62 events on the schedule already in the books. Three more champions were crowned on Day 11, including poker pros Alexander "Schildy1984" Debus and Vincent "Vingtcent" Van Der Fluit, both of whom captured their first WCOOP bracelets.

The field of 1,146 had been trimmed down to 65 when Day 2 of Event #28 resumed on Wednesday. Among the notables with healthy stacks entering the day included Alexander "Schildy1984" Debus, Christina "lindeyloo22" Lindley, Christian "C.K." Kruel, Will "molswi47" Molson, Adam "Roothlus" Levy, Chris "Genius28" Lee, and Mark "AceSpades11" Radoja, all of whom were vying for a first-place prize of $206,280.
Valentyn "touchmynuts1" Shabelnyk, of the Ukraine, claimed the chip lead early on Wednesday and held it for much of the day. However, Lindley took a large pot off of the Ukrainian with two tables remaining to seize the pole position, and she remained there until the final table was set:
Seat | Player | Chips |
---|---|---|
1 | hithenose | 292,854 |
2 | d-mon-d | 1,305,649 |
3 | Valentyn "touchmynuts1" Shabelnyk | 1,571,854 |
4 | Alexander "Schildy1984" Debus | 1,697,993 |
5 | Christina "lindeyloo22" Lindley | 1,857,150 |
6 | anguila | 234,400 |
7 | djibh | 250,790 |
8 | TheFan83 | 536,513 |
9 | Ben "delaney_kid" Delaney | 847,797 |
Ben "delaney_kid" Delaney was the first to send a player to the rail when his Q?Q? bested Spanish player "hithenose's" J?J?. Delaney's assault on Spain continued when his A?Q? outflipped "anguila's," 6?6?, who earned $22,920 for eighth place.
Lindley's momentum stalled when she attempted a bluff that was picked off by Debus holding fourth pair, and the former chip leader ran into more problems in a three-handed pot with Delaney and Austria's "TheFan83." The three players saw a flop of Q?7?4? and Lindley checked. "TheFan83" bet 100,000, Delaney called, and Lindley check-raised all-in for 671,842."TheFan83" called and Delaney folded. "TheFan83" showed A?A? and was ahead of Lindley's Q?10?. The turn and river were no help to Lindley who hit the rail in seventh place.
Another former chip leader was ousted in sixth place. Shabelnyk's stack had dwindled to less than 700,000 when he got it in preflop with the three-bet holding A?6?. "TheFan83" was the original raiser and found himself in excellent shape when he called with 6?6?, and the K?9?Q?5?8? board sent the Ukrainian player out of the tournament in sixth place.
Canada's "djibh" and Norway's "d-mon-d" were eliminated in fifth and fourth place, respectively, setting up a three-way battle between Delaney, Debus and "TheFan83," who had more than half the chips in play. Debus, however, doubled through the leader when he called a five-bet shove with A?J?, and came from behind to beat "TheFan83's" A?Q? for a pot worth nearly 3.7 million.
Debus added more ammunition with the elimination of Delaney. With the board reading 3?6?9?K?, Delaney checked, Debus bet 182,550, and Delaney moved all-in for 1,339,334. Debus called with K?9? for two pair and had to fade the straight outs of Delaney's 8?7?. The river was the A? and Delaney made his exit in third place for $110,016.
Heads-up play lasted only 10 hands and ended in a cooler spot for "TheFan83." With the blinds at 20,000/40,000, Debus min-raised and "TheFan83" called to see a flop of 3?J?4?. After "TheFan83" checked, Debus bet 80,000 and then faced a check-raised of 280,000. He called and the Q? hit the turn. "TheFan83" bet 480,000 and Debus called. On the 9? river, "TheFan83" moved all-in and was quickly called by Debus, who had turned a set of queens. "TheFan83" showed J?4? for a flopped two pair but his run ended in second place. Debus, meanwhile, earned more than $200,000 and his first WCOOP bracelet.

Event #29, the $250 No-Limit Omaha H/L Six-Max Knockout affair, took more than 14 hours to complete thanks to a four-and-a-half hour final table. Arriving at that final table with the chip lead was Horns_Halos. Already on top of the counts, Horns_Halos knocked out midastruck in eighth place to gain an even bigger chip lead. After a J?7?2? flop fell, midastruck's chips were on the line with A?J?5?2? for two pair and a decent low draw against Horns_Halos' A?Q?7?3? for middle pair and the nut-low draw. The Q? turn followed by the K? river locked up the pot for Horns_Halos with a better two pair.
Here were the chip counts at the start of the final table:
Seat | Player | Chips |
---|---|---|
1 | PlayWMyNuts | 291,525 |
2 | nasud 11 | 711,403 |
3 | Zbad | 111,400 |
4 | nkeyno | 633,184 |
5 | cutitup | 516,178 |
6 | Horns_Halos | 1,161,310 |
It took 41 minutes before the first elimination. After nasud 11 opened with an under-the-gun raise, Zbad shoved for about 11 big blinds from the hijack with A?K?3?2?. Action folded around to nasud 11 who called with A?9?4?2?. The board ran out J?9?5?8?K?, offering no low and giving nasud 11 the nut flush to secure the pot. Another 50 minutes passed before nasud 11 hit the rail in fifth place. All-in with 5?5?4?2?, nasud 11 fell to nkeyno's A?9?3?2? when the board came A?9?6?K?J?.
PlayWMyNuts exited in fourth place. He called a four-bet shove with A?6?4?2?, but chip leader Horns_Halos tabled A?J?9?4? and took it down with two pair after the board fell Q?9?8?K?A?. For the third time at the final table, a deal was then discussed. After about 20 minutes, terms were agreed upon, but the action commenced for another 27 minutes before play reached heads-up. Failing to make it there was cutitup. After a Q?9?8? flop, cutitup raised all-in with A?7?7?6? after nkeyno bet. With Q?Q?5?4?, nkeyno called and held up with top set through the J? turn and 7? river.
The chip counts at the start of heads-up play were as follows:
nkeyno: 1,500,496
Horns_Halos: 1,924,504
A lengthy battle ensued, lasting for more than an hour and a half before Horns_Halos won the tumultuous battle. On the final hand, "Horns_Halos" raised on the button. From the big blind, "nkeyno" shoved for about roughly 30 big blinds. "Horns_Halos" called and revealed A?A?8?6?, and was up against "nkeyno's" A?K?6?5?. The board rolled out J?10?9?5?10?, giving "Horns_Halos" aces and tens to secure the win, the $23,555 first-place prize, and the WCOOP bracelet.

PokerStars WCOOP 30 - $500 No-Limit Holdem Triple Shootout 10-Max Two-Day ($275K Guaranteed)
Buy-in | Entrants | Prize Pool |
---|---|---|
$500+$30 | 645 | $322,500 |
Two rounds of the $500 No-Limit Hold'em Triple Shootout were completed as the field of 645 was shaved to a final table of 10. The remaining players began with 7,500 chips when play resumed at 1100 EDT (1600 BST) on Thursday. A first-place prize of nearly $59,000 is on the line.
Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu was the only member of Team PokerStars Pro to win his first table on Wednesday. However, Negreanu made an early exit in the second round. With the blinds at 40/80, "delpede112" raised to 220 from early position and "delegator" three-bet to 660 from middle position. Negreanu then four-bet all-in for 2,530 from the small blind, and both players opted to call to create a three-way all in. Negreanu's J?J? had the worst of it because "delpede112" had Q?Q? and "delegator" was in front with K?K?. The best hand held up and Negreanu made his exit in 95th place for $1,241.
Among the 10 players to win their second round table and reach the final table were Sergey "gipsy74" Rybachenko and Niki "RealAndyBeal" Jedlicka. Here's a look at the seating assignment of the 10 members of the Event #30 final table:

PokerStars WCOOP 31 - $300 8-Game ($100K Guaranteed)

Eric AceQuad Brix bubbled the final table of Event #31, the $300 8-Game, finishing in seventh place. During stud hi/lo , Brix was all-in on fifth street holding A?7?/4?6?2? for a 7-6 low, facing jokanavic's 4?3?/6?5?5?. A 2? on sixth street for jokanavic made a 6-5 low and straight that Brix was unable to defeat.
The chip counts entering the final table were as follows:
Seat | Player | Chips |
---|---|---|
1 | Vincent "Vingtcent" Van Der Fluit | 554,962 |
2 | jokanavic | 200,428 |
3 | Elliot "EeeTee2008" Nicholls | 563,826 |
4 | Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome | 267,241 |
5 | Chillolini | 1,009,732 |
6 | ElmanOne | 563,811 |
The chips that jokanavic won from Brix didn't last long, because Vincent "Vingtcent" Van Der Fluit eliminated jokanavic on the sixth hand of the final table in a huge four-way pot. Here is how the boards looked at the end of the hand:
ElmanOne: XxXx/A?10?Q?-folded
Van Der Fluit: XxXx/5?K?J?4?/Xx
jokanavic: XxXx/3?4?3?3?/Xx
Nicholls: XxXx/Q?J?Q?9?/Xx
The betting was hot and heavy on third street with each player putting in three bets. Only one bet followed on fourth street and that was from Nicholls. He did the same on fifth street chasing out ElmanOne, though a short-stacked jokanavic reraised. Both Nicholls and Van Der Fluit called to see sixth street where jokanavic went all-in with open trips. Nicholls raised to isolate the pot, but Van Der Fluit stuck around to see seventh street. Nicholls bet on seventh, but was faced with a raise from Van Der Fluit. Nicholls called but mucked when Van Der Fluit showed 5?5?4? for a full house, besting both opponents' holdings to take the chip lead.
In no-limit hold'em and pot-limit Omaha, Van Der Fluit continued to build up his lead and capped the 6,250/12,500 PLO round by eliminating Nicholls. First to act, ElmanOne min-raised. Van Der Fluit called in the cutoff, only to see Nicholls put in a three-bet to 75,000 from the button. The blinds folded, ElmanOne called, but Van Der Fluit had other ideas and four-bet to 318,750. Nicholls five-bet shoved for 530,285 total, getting ElmanOne to fold. Van Der Fluit called with K?K?8?4?, but had some catching up to do against Nichols' A?A?Q?3?. The board ran out 10?7?6?5?J? to give Van Der Fluit an eight-high straight to score the elimination.
A very short-stacked Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome busted shortly thereafter in the 2-7 round. Despite making a reasonable 10x8x7x5x3x low after drawing one on the third draw, Chillolini had the pot locked up from the start after being dealt 8x6x4x3x2x. Nineteen hands later, though, Chillolini fell in third place to ElmanOne. A series of raises between the two led to Chillolini being all-in pre-draw. Each drew one at the start, but ElmanOne made an 8x5x4x3x2x on the second draw. Chillolini was drawing with a 7x5x4x3x, but was unable to spike a wheel to survive.
At the start of heads-up play, Van Der Fluit commanded a stack of 2,692,375 to ElmanOne's 467,625. It only took until two games later at 40,000/80,000 Omaha hi/lo, for Van Der Fluit to seal the deal. The capped betting preflop delivered a 10?6?5? flop where ElmanOne bet. Van Der Fluit called to see the 5? turn. The rest of ElmanOne's chips made their way into the middle with K?J?3?2? against Van Der Fluit's A?K?9?2?. Neither had improved their hand yet, though, because both held flush and low draws. The Q? fell on the river, leaving Van Der Fluit's A?K? in play as the winning cards. For his win, he earned $35,076 and a WCOOP bracelet.
Place | Player | Prize |

2 | ElmanOne | $26,164.80 |
3 | Chillolini | $19,434 |
4 | Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome | $13,272 |
5 | Elliot "EeeTee2008" Nicholls | $9,480 |
