World Poker Tour Prague Day 1c: Bonnet, MacPhee Lead
On Wednesday, Season XI of the World Poker Tour rolled along with Day 1c of PartyPoker WPT Prague. Two hundred and seventy-three players entered on Day 1c, creating a player pool of 567. The end-of-day chip leader was Yannick Bonnet, who bagged 197,200 chips (just 7,000 more than Kevin MacPhee), but the overall chip leader entering into Day 2 is still Mikhail Mazunin, who accumulated 203,600 chips on Day 1b.
En route to the chip lead, Bonnet busted Jason Duval during Level 4. Duval rivered eights full on a board of Jx5x6x6x8x, but when the two got all chips in the middle, Bonnet rolled over two jacks for a higher full house. During the final level of play, Bonnet flopped another set this time against Martin Kabrhel. Kabrhel flopped top pair, was eventually all-in, and busted when he was unable to improve his hand.
MacPhee was the beneficiary of a double knockout during Level 5. On a flop of 8x6x5x with two spades, Petr Konas and Yasmine Hanane were all in and at risk with MacPhee having them covered. One held a set of fives, the other top pair, and MacPhee had a flush draw with Q?9?. The turn was a brick, but the 2? completed the board on the river, giving MacPhee a flush and eliminating Konas and Hanane from the tournament.
Other notables who made it through to Day 2 include Michael Timex McDonald, Leo Margets, Daniel Ospina, Stanislav Barshak, and Olivier Busquet. During Level 8, Margets did her best MacPhee impersonation, recording a double knockout. The money was all-in preflop between her, Mikhail Korotkikh and Guillaume Darcourt, and the hands looked like this:
Margets: A?A?
Korotkikh: K?K?
Darcourt: Q?J?
The board rolled out J?8?5?2?10?, and both Korotkikh and Darcourt were eliminated.
Other notables who hit the rail include Davidi Kitai, Dan Smith, Byron Kaverman, David Vamplew, Liv Boeree and Martin Finger. During Level 8, Kitai was all-in and at risk with the Q?Q? on a flop of 9?9?7?. Aleksandr Konstantinov had him crushed with the A?A?, but Philippe Narboni had both of them crushed with the 9?9? for quads! Neither Kitai nor Konstantinov went runner-runner, and both were eliminated.
Perhaps the best story of the day was the appearance by Thor Hansen. Hansen, who is battling terminal cancer, received a small break from his chemotherapy sessions in Norway to play in this event, and the two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner bagged 52,500 chips. From the entire PokerNews family, we wish Hansen all the best.
Day 2 of PartyPoker WPT Prague will begin on Thursday at 1300 CET (0700 ET). After play ends, you will be able to find a daily recap right here on PokerNews.
