The remaining 22 will all be chasing one man, [Removed:480], who steamrolled through the final few levels of the day to finish with a stack of 1.434 million in chips. That more than doubles his nearest opponent, Donald Jones, who accumulated a respectable 689,000. If Divkovic's name sounds familiar, that's because the Bosnia and Herzegovina native won the last stop on Season 5 of the ANZPT in Perth for AUDA$114,000.
Also in the top of the counts are Dominik Nitsche and Iori Yogo, sitting in third and fourth place on the leader board, respectively. Nitsche is a former Latin American Poker Tour champion, winning the Mar del Plata event back in 2009 for $381,030. He has also won a World Series of Poker gold bracelet and a World Poker Your title. At the Season 5 ANZPT Perth event that Divkovic won, Yogo finished runner-up for AUD$72,000.
The day started with some big names including Ashley Warner, Ricky Kroesen, Martin Kozlov, Brendan Rubie, Dale Marsland and Joe Cabret. Unfortunately for those players, they were unable to advance.
Warner moved all in for his remaining 17,000 chips after Wing also committed the remainder of his stack preflop. Both players tabled their cards, and Warners 10?10? was no match against the J?J? for Wing as the board ran out A?K?6?6?8?.
Kroesens elimination was unfortunate. On a 5x3x2x flop, both he and another player moved all in and tabled their cards. Kroesen showed Ax4x for a flopped straight and was looking in great shape against his opponents QxQx. However, the board ran out the Qx and 5x to see a runner-runner combination send him to the rail.
Devkovic's big hand came when he clashed with Marsland, another big stack at the time. In a massive preflop betting war, both players committed over 400,000 chips creating a pot worth 840,000 in chips. Devkovic tabled the A?K? and was dominating Marsland who showed the A?Q?. The board ran out J?10?6?3?2? to see Divkovic rake in the biggest pot of the day, and cripple Marsland down to 48,000 in chips who was eliminated soon thereafter.
Players will return on for Day 3 on Sunday to play it out for the title. Be sure to stay tuned to all of the live updates brought to you by our PokerNews Live Reporting Team straight from the floor.
