2014 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Day 4: Paredes and Jaffee Headline Final Table
On Thursday, the 2014 $3 Million Guaranteed WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship continued with Day 4 action. The starting field of 1,229 entries had been whittled down to the final 36, all of whom started Day 4 looking for a spot at the prestigious six-handed final table.
After a fairly quick day of poker, that final table was set with David Paredes (pictured) leading the way with 9.65 million in chips. The story on everyone's mind, however, is that of Jared Jaffee who will enter the final table in third chip position with 6.62 million. Mere months ago, Jaffee won the WPT bestbet Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble for a $252,749 payday. He'll be looking to earn his second WPT title on Friday.
Final Table Seat Draw

2 | Jared Jaffee | 6,620,000 |
3 | Anthony Maio | 9,500,000 |
4 | Robert Merulla | 3,445,000 |
5 | David Paredes | 9,650,000 |

The day began with several notables still alive and looking for a seat at the final table. As the day wore on, however, most of these names were eliminated from play and forced to settle for a deep runs. Some of the notable faces who fell include Chad Brown (26th), Faraz Jaka (22nd), Byron Kaverman (21st), Ronit Chamani (13th) and Chris Reslock (10th).
After Reslock's elimination in 10th place, Bryan Choi and Justin Lunin-Pack were eliminated in ninth and eighth place, respectively. That left just seven players remaining, and the next to go would end up with the unfortunate honor of final table bubble boy.
The final hand of the day occurred at the 50,000/100,000/10,000 blind level. Anthony Maio opened with a raise to 230,000 and Kunal Patel flatted from the cutoff. The dealer rapped the table and produced a flop that read 3?7?8?. Maio fired out a continuation bet of 180,000 and Patel opted to stick around to see the next community card.
The 2? struck the felt on fourth street and Maio slowed down with a check. Patel took this opportunity to move 400,000 forward into the pot and Maio came right back over the top with a check-raise to 1.075 million. Patel replied with a three-bet all in and Maio snap-called.
Maio: 2?2?
Patel: A?A?
"Sick," said Patel as he realized that his pocket aces had been bested by the deuce on the turn. The dealer completed the board with the 4? and just like that Patel was out on the bubble of the final table. Despite the elimination, Patel still pocketed a cool $135,172 for his seventh-place finish.
The final table kicks off on Friday at 4 p.m. local time. As always, be sure to tune into PokerNews as we provide all of the latest updates from the thrilling conclusion to the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship!
