Global Poker Index: Liv Boeree Returns to the GPI 300

Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top 300 tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. The GPI also ranks the top performers of the year over two six-month periods as calculated by the USA Today Global Poker Index point system.

2014 GPI Player of the Year

There are no changes to the top 10 of the GPI Player of the Year race this week. Outside of the top 10, American Joe Kuether moved up 21 spots this week to No. 12. Kuether won a $5,000 buy-in side event at the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure ($136,250), finished 14th in a $1,000 turbo at the PCA ($2,040), and finished 27th in the World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw Main Event ($11,867).

Brit Tom Hall also climbed the ranks, moving up 20 spots to No. 17. Hall finished 10th in the PCA Main Event and 35th in UKIPT Edinburgh.

GPI 300 Top 10

Like the POY race, there is no change to the top 10 of the GPI 300. German Ole Schemion still leads the way, while Canadian Daniel Negreanu is less than 100 points behind him.

Welcome to the GPI

With a runner-up finish in UKIPT Edinburgh, Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree returns to the GPI 300 at No. 268. Boeree earned ��59,180 in Scotland, pushing her career live tournament earnings over $2.4 million dollars.

Also returning to the GPI 300 are Kevin Eyster and Gary Benson. Eyster finished sixth in the WSOPC Choctaw Main Event, earning $87,103, while Benson��s latest cash came in December. Benson will have several opportunities to improve his ranking over the coming weeks, as the Aussie Millions just kicked off in his home country of Australia.

Exiting the GPI 300 this week are Daniel Neilson, Ryan Welch, Shaun Deeb, Shawn Buchanan, and Konstantin Maslak.

Biggest Gains

David Tuthill makes the biggest leap this week, climbing 58 spots to No. 127. Tuthill finished fourth in the Million Dollar Heater Main Event in Biloxi, pocketing $43,262. Jake Bazeley finished one spot ahead of him, grabbing $54,078 for third place, and moved up 50 places to No. 100 in the GPI.

The aforementioned Tom Hall also made a 50-rank jump, and now comes in at No. 151.

Biggest Drops

Both Sergey Rybachenko and Ty Reiman fall 45 spots this week, to Nos. 167 and 240 respectively. Since 2011, Rybachenko has only cashed in four events outside of Cyprus, while Reiman only has one six-figure score since finishing runner-up in the PCA Main Event in 2010.
