Locaid Selected as Geolocation Provider for Delaware/Nevada Multi-State Internet Poker
One week after Nevada and Delaware agreed to the first multi-state online poker compact in U.S. history, a geolocation company was selected to work with operators in the two states. Locaid LLC announced on Tuesday that it will provide the Internet gambling industry with the first geolocation service that is compliant with strict state regulatory requirements under the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement.
The agreement between Delaware and Nevada will allow the two states to share online poker player pools and opens the door for other states to join when regulated. There is no set date for the implementation of the interstate market, but Delaware Gov. Jack Markell says it is "in everybody's interest to push this as quickly as we can."
The first step, according to Markell, was to work with technology partners to ensure that all of the security measures are in place. Delaware and Nevada law require verification that an Internet gaming customer is physically located in each respective state before they can play. Locaid already offers its services to gambling companies in both states and will now provide the technology for the multi-state platform.
"Locaid delivers mobile compliance technology that ultimately enabled the first interstate online poker deal in U.S. history," said Rip Gerber, President and CEO of Locaid. "We have been plumbing the mobile location systems with carriers, operators and regulators for years to reach this landmark accord, and we congratulate Nevada and Delaware in delivering a secure, customer-friendly geolocation compliance approach that can cross state lines. We look forward to working with additional state regulatory teams and gaming operators as they onboard this year. And if New Jersey joins the pact, our location service currently deployed in the Garden State will seamlessly integrate."
New Jersey followed Nevada and Delaware last year to become the third state to legalize online poker. As of now there's no word on whether New Jersey will form a partnership with Delaware and Nevada, but Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval said he's had conversations with the Garden State and would love to add it as a partner.
According to Gerber, all real-money gambling sites in the U.S. use Locaid. Some of the customers include Station Casinos, GTECH, GambleID, Cantor Gaming, SGI, Caesars, 888, Central Account Management Systems (CAMS), the World Series of Poker and William Hill.
