2014 World Series of Poker Day 27: Dan Kelly Wins LHE, 2nd Bracelet; Michael Drummond Wins 6-Max PLO 0001

Two more bracelets were claimed on Sunday at the 2014 World Series of Poker with Michael Drummond taking the honors in Event #42: $5,000 Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha while Dan Kelly joined the ever-growing group of career multiple-bracelet winners by winning his second WSOP title in Event #43: $1,500 Limit Holdem.

Meanwhile a couple of low buy-in no-limit holdem events continued to play out while a star-studded field assembled for the start of the Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players Championship.

Here are the highlights from all five of the events that were in action yesterday at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

Event #42: $5,000 Six-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha

From a starting group of 542 in Event #42 there were just 13 to return for Sundays final day of play, and by the end Michael Drummond of New Hampshire emerged with his first career WSOP bracelet and the $541,747.

Drummonds final-day path to victory wasnt easy, as early trouble saw him become the short stack the first few eliminations came, with David Bakes Baker among them going out in 12th ($27,192). Drummond would hang on, however, watching Sorel Mizzi be eliminated in ninth ($35,902), then Drummond would knock out Brandon Crawford himself in eighth place ($48,011).

Following Richard Ashbys elimination in seventh ($48,011), the official final table was set. Phil Laak had been the chip leader to start Day 3, but hed fall in sixth, followed by Brant Hale in fifth and Ryan Schmidt in fourth.

Event #20: $3,000 No-Limit Holdem Shootout winner Kory Kilpatrick was the next to go, and after Drummond eliminated Kilpatrick in third he took a big 3-to-1 chip lead to heads-up play versus Darius Studdard.

It would take just 12 hands from there, with the final hand seeing the pair get all of Studdards chips in the middle on a 8?3?4? flop with Studdard holding Q?10?3?3? for bottom set but Drummond having a better set of fours with 8?7?4?4?. The turn and river couldnt help Studdard, and Drummond had won.

Event #43: $1,500 Limit Holdem

Meanwhile Potomac, Marylands Dan Kelly earned his second career WSOP title after outlasting a field of 657 to win Event #43 and a $195,167 first prize. Kellys first bracelet came in the $25,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Holdem event in 2010 against a tough group of opponents, and this one, too, saw him prevailing against a difficult final table to earn the title.

Kelly began with the chip lead to begin the nine-handed final table yesterday, though hed lose the advantage while a couple of five-time WSOP bracelet winners were among the early knockouts, with Jeff Lisandro going out in seventh place and David Chiu falling in sixth.

Yegor Tsurikov had become the new leader, but by the time Event #3: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha champion Brandon Shack-Harris went out in third place, Kelly had regained the advantage over Tsurikov. Incidentally, Shack-Harris has collected a first-place finish, a second, and now a third at this years WSOP.

It would take 53 hands of heads-up between the pair bringing the total for the final table up to 331 before Kelly finally had Tsurikov all in for his final chips with 10?6? versus Kellys J?10?, and a 7?8?7?Q?9? runout gave Kely the better straight and the win.

Event #44: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem

The weekend saw 1,914 players turn out for Event #44: $1,500 No-Limit Holdem, and after two full days of play just 15 remain with Brandon Ageloff of Delray Beach, Florida finishing last night as the only one among them to bag up more than 1 million chips.

There were 212 survivors who came back for Sundays Day 2, with only 198 of them making the money and getting a piece of the events $2,583,900 prize pool. During the afternoon Tony Cousineau picked up yet another WSOP cash (145th, $3,178), his seventh of the summer and 66th of his career. Among those lasting further into the evening were Loni Harwood (37th, $9,457), Yevgeniy Timoshenko ($11,420), Harrison Gimbel (32nd, $11,420), Randal Flowers (22nd, $13,953), and Aditya Agarwal (16th, $17,234).

Another Florida-based player leads this event as well as Jonathan Bodden of Miami finished with the overnight lead ahead of Loren Klein in second position and Lily Kiletto in third.

Also bagging a top five stack last night was Ari Engel who has been speaking out this summer about the importance of low buy-in events such as this one and other matters related to the WSOP schedule. Event #46: $50,000 Poker Players Championship

Finally late yesterday afternoon saw the start of the much anticipated five-day $50K Poker Players Championship, which as always attracted a small but elite group to battle for one of the most prestigious bracelets awarded each summer at the WSOP.

Just 85 have turned out thus far for this years $50K PPC, well shy of the 132 who participated a year ago although late registration remains open for two more hours on Monday meaning the field size will likely grow a bit more. Following five 100-minute levels of players rotating between eight different poker variants there were still 80 of them with chips with Matt Glantz leading the way. Dylan Linde and Richard Ashby (fresh off bubbling the final table of Event #42) currently occupy the next two spots in the counts, with last years winner Matthew Ashton in seventh position among the many big names with big chips to enter Day 2.

Phil Hellmuth (currently in 58th of 80), Daniel Negreanu (63rd), and Phil Ivey (74th) all survived with below average stacks, while the Day 1 eliminations included Vanessa Selbst, Sergii Baranov, Dan Shak, Michael Glick, and Phil Galfond.

Go take a look at the current chip counts for Event #46 to see nearly every spot occupied by a notable. By the way, all eight of the players to watch discussed in our feature here on PokerNews are still in the hunt so far, a group including Alex Luneau (in fifth position), Michael Mizrachi (eighth), Ben Yu (16th), Marco Johnson (20th), Robert Mizrachi (32nd), Paul Volpe (35th), George Danzer (44th), and Calvin Anderson (70th).
