PokerStars.net Announces First-Ever Beijing Millions in Mainland China
In a press release issued on June 11, PokerStars.net announced it will sponsor the 2014 Beijing Millions, an event included in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
The tournament represents an important milestone for the development of poker in Asia. It will be the first one ever held in mainland China as part of the APPT circuit.
The Beijing Millions will include a guaranteed minimum prize pool of one million Chinese Yuan (approximately $160,000) and will run between July 18 and July 27 at the Beijing Star Poker Club in the Chao Yang District of the People��s Republic of China capital city.
"Poker in China is become more and more popular in recent years. I am so excited that the Beijing Millions will become part of the APPT," said APPT President Danny McDonagh.
"International players will not only be fascinated by the history of this great city and all the attractions it has to offer, but will also enjoy an event held at a very professionally run club headed by Asia Player of the Year (APOY) champion Jian Yang," McDonagh continued.
The 2014 Beijing Millions has been officially sanctioned by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports and is supposed to attract some of the most famous players on the Asian continent. Among the names that are already confirmed for the event are Team PokerStars Pros Celina Lin, Raymond Wu, and Bryan Huang.
"The Organizer - Beijing AoBoTe Sports Culture-Transmitting Company Limited (AoBoTe) is committed to establishing poker as a mind sport in Greater China", said AoBoTe principal and reigning Asia Player of the Year (APOY), Jian Yang.
"The Beijing Millions is the first of many poker sporting events we plan to run in Beijing and partnering with the APPT will ensure the event is held to the highest standard that we are seeking."
The tournament will feature five different Day 1s with a buy-in of Yuan 3,000 (approximately $480) and will run alongside other events including the invitation-only China, Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macau Challenge, a Yuan 1,500 pot-limit Omaha event, and a Yuan 3,000 buy in no-limit hold��em teams event scheduled for June 27.
