partypoker Announces Tentative Schedule for NJCOP II in April
Earlier in the week, partypoker NJ announced the tentative schedule for the second installment of its annual New Jersey Championship of Online Poker (NJCOP), taking place from April 16-26.
Barring any changes before the final schedule is released, the NJCOP II schedule will feature 32 events boasting a combined $1 million in prizes guaranteed to be awarded. This represents a huge growth when compared to the inaugural NJCOP where there were 15 events with a much lower $600,000 in combined guaranteed prizes.
Most New Jersey poker players will have their eye on the $200 buy-in NJCOP Main Event and its $150,000 prize pool guarantee on April 26. Other event buy-ins range from $50-$1,000, and there will be plenty of qualifiers to help players get into these events at the fraction of the cost.
While most of the poker variants on the schedule are in no-limit hold'em format, there are a handful of tournaments featuring other games, including Event #2 and Event #19 being played in pot-limit Omaha hi/lo, Event #4 being played in fixed-limit hold'em, Event #8, Event #21, and Event #25 being played in pot-limit Omaha, and Event #23 being played in seven-card stud.
Events #1 and #20 have been designated as Players' Choice events. Partypoker representative "Colette" asked players on the PocketFives New Jersey Local Community wall and on the TwoPlusTwo-dedicated nj.partypoker.com poker forum to email her team about the events they would like to see. Voting closed on March 11, but "Colette" still invites players to provide their thoughts on the proposed schedule before they finalize it.
Reaction to Changes on the partypoker NJ Regular Schedule
While New Jersey players are gearing up for NJCOP II, players should also be pleased that partypoker NJ has added three new tournaments to its regular schedule, a $35 buy-in rebuy no-limit hold'em tournament with a $3,000 guaranteed prize pool on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 14:30 ET, a $25 buy-in rebuy pot-limit Omaha tournament with a $2,000 guaranteed prize pool on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 16:30 ET, and a $75 buy-in six-max no-limit hold'em tournament with a $2,000 guaranteed prize pool on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.
Additionally, the site added $1,000 in guaranteed prizes to its $200 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament at 9:30 ET, increasing it from a $3,000 guarantee to a $4,000 guarantee.
These changes are welcome to some of the regular players, but some are taking a wait-and-see approach. Mike "JohnnyDrama" Haberman, who is ranked third in thepokerdb's 2015 New Jersey rankings and sits currently fifth on the PocketFives New Jersey online rankings, told PokerNews, "I actually don't even play the $200 tournament and haven't dabbled in any of the new stuff yet because the prize pools aren't big enough. I'm just not that interested in a reg-fest with 20 people in it. While I'm very pleased to see new stuff, I'm going wait it out to see if the prize pools can get some increases."
Haberman also shared with PokerNews a suggestion for partypoker NJ, as he stated, "It would be nice to see partypoker have one of those $75 six-max with a $7,500 guarantee on Sundays at 4 p.m. I can't imagine it wouldn't hit its guarantee at this time on a Sunday."
Regardless of where you live, you can play the NJCOP II and partypoker NJ's regular schedule anytime you are in the state of New Jersey. This means a quick trip if you are in a neighboring state such as New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, or Maryland.
