Five Things You Probably Didnt Know About the PokerNews Cup
On Nov. 18, 2015, the PokerNews Cup will bring one of the most exciting low buy-in poker festivals in Europe to King's Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.
Highlighted by a 250 Main Event that boasts a 200,000 guarantee running from Nov. 19-23, the ninth edition of PokerNews' own live tournament series will be again a chance for the PokerNews community to get together and play some poker with many of those players who dream to join a big, international live poker event, but can't afford the entry fees of a European Poker Tour or World Poker Tour event.
Known to be a relaxed yet professional event with a truly international field, the PokerNews Cup is a great opportunity to touch base with the poker community and compete for a premium prize pool. If you are unfamiliar with the event and you are not sure you know everything there is to know about it, have a look at some interesting facts that may convince you to join us in Rozvadov in November.
1. Running Since 2007
Despite what many think, the PokerNews Cup is not a new event. Launched in 2007 at Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, the series traveled through Asia, South Africa, and Europe to keep thousands of players busy at the poker table.
After a five-year hiatus started after Australian Con Tsapounis' victory at the 2009 PokerNews Cup held in Melbourne, the event came back to Europe with a new series of exciting tournaments held in Vienna (Oct. 2014) and Rozvadov (Feb. 2015).
The one in November will be the ninth edition of the PokerNews Cup.
2. It's Not As Small As You Might Think
The PokerNews Cup is not a small tournament. Since the very first edition in Melbourne, all the events have attracted a significant number of players often bringing more than 1,000 participants to the tables.
Since it would not be fair to discuss how good things were almost a decade ago, let's take the tournament held in Rozvadov in February this year, where a total of 1,550 participants showed up at King's to play in the Main Event.
Is a field of 1,550 a small one? Exactly. we didn't think so.
3. WSOP bracelets love it
Did you know that icons of the game like Tony G and Lee Nelson have joined the action in the PokerNews Cup? Over the years, the relaxed atmosphere of the events in the schedule and vibrant poker community that animates them convinced also World Series of Poker champions like Jeff Lisandro, Mark Vos, and Joe Hachem to join us at the tables and fight for a spot in the PokerNews Cup's history.
4. It's Not Only About the Main Event
Sure, a small entry fee for a share of the 200,000 guaranteed prize pool sounds attractive, but let's face it, not everyone is going to leave the tournament as a winner.
Besides the Main Event, the Cup features five additional side events including one with a 10,000 guarantee. PokerNews Pot-Limit Omaha event, the PokerNews Cooldown event with a 5,000 guarantee, and the Pokernews King's Deepstack Late Night Turbo starting at 11 p.m. on Nov. 21.
And then there are the cash games, as King's Casino is known to be one of the hottest spots in Europe for cash game players. The tables are open 24/7 and there are games for just about any stakes. With lots of local heroes, German regulars, and all the players in Rozvadov for the PokerNews Cup, the cash game action is going to be crazy.
5. Held at Poker's Largest Card Rooms
With up to 114 poker tables, King's Casino in Rozvadov is home to the largest card room in Europe, and this can probably help you to get an idea of the kind of games that run there.
Also, once at King's you'll find everything you need to spend some great time with countless casino games, slot machines, bars, restaurants, and also massage salons where to recharge before the next game starts.
