PokerStars Targets Recreational Players With New "Common Cents" Series
On the heels of successful World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) - where higher-stakes players competed for a share of more than a guaranteed $45 million - PokerStars just introduced a new tournament series dubbed Common Cents - which should prove to be more suitable for the "common" player on its network.
The Common Cents poker festival takes place on PokerStars from Oct. 5-11, featuring 14 tournaments all costing under $1 with at least $250,000 in combined guaranteed prizes.
The online poker series kicks off on Oct. 5 at 14:05 ET with the Common Cents Kick-Off $100K GTD, a freezeout tournament costing just a penny with a huge six-digit guaranteed prize pool. For just one cent, one lucky player will walk away with the top prize guaranteed to be at least $10,000 barring any deals at the final table.
After this event, the tournament buy-ins progressively increase to $0.11, $0.22, $0.33 - and so on - until Oct. 11 at 15:00 ET when the Common Cents Main Event takes place. The Main event, features a very reasonable $0.99 buy-in, providing poker players tons of value with a healthy $25,000 guaranteed prize pool.
What's more is that many players will be able to play in the Common Cents Main Event for free. During the first 13 events, PokerStars will be awarding a random table every a ticket to the $0.99 Main Event every single minute for the first hour of play. This adds up to at least 500 tickets in each event, or over 6,500 tickets throughout the first 13 events.
PokerStars will also be hosting a leaderboard for the players that perform the best throughout the series a share of $1,000. The player that finishes on top of the leaderboard will not only be able to enjoy all the prizes they have earned from each tournament they cashed in, but also receive $100 from the leaderboard competition as well.
