Sunday Briefing: Patrick "pmahoney22" Mahoney Wins $144K, Big 888poker Numbers & More
With the 2016 Turbo Championship Of Online Poker (TCOOP) in full swing at PokerStars, it was no surprise that some of the biggest scores of the year were enjoyed on Sunday, January 24.
The largest of these scores is now nestled in the PokerStars account of Patrick "pmahoney22" Mahoney thanks to him emerging victorious from a field of 2,058 players. Grinding from Mexico, Mahoney navigated his way through a star-studded crowd to get his hands on his first 'COOP title and a colossal $144,712.44 �C of which $35,225.68 was made up of bounty payments.
Mahoney defeated Estonia��s ��Canibus555�� heads-up to secure the victory and had to battle with the likes of Will ��molswi47�� Molson and Kevin ��GamblingPays�� Allen at the final table. Those two fell in ninth and seventh place respectively for payouts of $11,916.67 and $23,258.32.
This weekend��s Sunday Million ended in a four-way chop, with the quartet locking up more than $90,000 each.
Ukraine��s ��b2k-Snick�� busted in fourth place for $90,640.10 while Mexico resident ��PureRunnings�� fell one place later, but not before locking up $139,126.29 �C the most of any of those finishing in the money places. The runner-up was Canada��s ��blazinchron��, who scooped $129,684.17, leaving ��metis669�� of Russia to claim the title and $112,764.71.

- PokerStars Team Online��s George ��Jorj95�� Lind who won the TCOOP-15: $215 NL Hold��em 6-Max Hyper-Turbo for $72,113.88
- Benny ��towliestar�� Spindler who finished second in the Bigger $109 for $34,856.65 after a heads-up chop
- Stephen ��woody1234321�� Woodhead who won the TCOOP-17: $215 NL Hold��em Optional Re-Entry for $118,818.68
- ��B3t LeE�� who won the Sunday 500 for $62,940.50
- Ben ��Fabaz�� Farrell who won the TCOOP-19: $215 NL Hold��em Hyper-Turbo for $84,490.25
It wasn��t only PokerStars running an online series because the 888poker XL Super Series kicked off on Sunday, too.
The opening event, a $250,000 guarantee costing $160 to enter, saw 1,675 players buy in and create a prize pool of some $356,100. This meant first place paid $60,145.29, which was awarded to Brazilian ��thesecretvms�� who defeated Ireland��s Kevin ��SuitedAcesBaby�� Killeen heads-up for the title; Killeen won $42,803.22 for his runner-up finish.
888��s popular Whale tournament received the Super XL treatment this week meaning its $150,000 guarantee became $200,000. More than $90,000 of this sum was shared among the final two players, Gianluca ��G.Escobar888�� Escobar and Greece��s ��JohnyK91.�� They chopped heads-up for scores of $45,743.60 and $44,311.99 with JohnyK91 claiming the title.
Killeen��s fellow Irishman, Peter ��joeychestnut�� Murphy won the $150,000 Mega Deep for $30,770.00 while Swedish star ��Gr33nApples�� walked away with the $13,428.90 first place prize in the $60,000 Turbo Mega Deep.
Over at partypoker, former European Poker Tour Vilamoura champion Toby ��eightenclubs�� Lewis won the $150,000 guaranteed High Roller for $27,780.00 for one of the biggest cashes on partypoker this Sunday.
Its $150,000 guaranteed Main Event, which was played to a freezeout structure this week, as it had more than $22,000 of overlay. ��Tunaru88�� claimed its top prize of $23,295.
