Valentine's Day weekend brought out the love of poker by players on New Jersey-regulated poker rooms with all major tournaments exceeding their guarantees. This was not the case the weekend before, due to players choosing to watch Super Bowl 50 or attend parties instead of playing online.
The biggest online tournament winner in the Garden State over the weekend came in the partypoker NJ/BorgataPoker.com $50,000 Guarantee when "Robcards" banked $10,720 after defeating "RickRahim" in heads-up play. "RickRahim" collected $7,059 for his runner-up performance.
Notable players to navigate their way through the field of 268 entrants to pony up the $215 buy-in and reach the final table included Edwin "GiantGenius" Rowan (5th - $3,591), Steven "stevenmadara" Madara (8th - $1,983), and Ryan "shipthesherb" Hohner (9th - $1,447).
Meanwhile, over in the WSOP.com NJ/888poker NJ Sunday $30,000 Guarantee it was "LeafPlant" finishing on top of the 174-player field to win $8,691. New Jersey's "johnnygolf78" finished in second place, taking home $5,070.
There was no change this week in the top five spots of the PocketFives New Jersey Online Rankings, which ranks the best online poker tournament players on New Jersey-regulated poker rooms. Michael "JohnnyDrama" Haberman Jr. still leads the way in the top spot, followed by Yong "ykwon17" Kwon, Keith "donnysack" Donovan, Daniel "RedsoxNets5" Sewnig, and Andrew "Mergulas" Glauberg.
