As the summer months loom ahead, prize pools in online tournaments typically begin to drop with players spending more time outdoors. This past weekend was the first we witnessed a substantial drop in action with many major online tournaments failing to meet their posted guarantees.
Gagliano, under the screenname "itWasThatOr0" was one of two players along with "MeanReversn" to win a World Series of Poker Main Event package valued at $13,000. This was the second time Gagliano won a package this year after winning his first package two weeks ago on April 24.
To add onto his great week, Gagliano also snagged fifth place in the WSOP NJ/888poker NJ $30,000 GTD Weekly Sunday to bank $1,830. Two other well-known players battled it out for the top two spots in this tournament with Hung "nowitsover" Truong ultimately winning the top prize of $8,250 and Anthony "l0lflawless" Maio securing $4,800 for second place.
The weekend's only other five-digit winner came in the PokerStars NJ Sunday Special, $50,000 Gtd with "OceansO7" finishing on top of the 285 entrants to pony-up the $200 buy-in to win $10,841. New Jersey's "Scooby-D0O" walked away with $7,952 after finishing in second place, while "BurntBagels" banked $5,990 for third place.
"Ken Kratz" also had reason to celebrate over the weekend after winning an impressive $9,217 in the PokerStars NJ Sunday High Roller [6-Max], $15,000 Gtd. Steven "FadeOrHoldz" Madara, who typically cashes in something big just about every week, finished in third place in this tournament for $3,737.
Meanwhile on partypoker NJ/BorgataPoker.com, the $50,000 Guarantee ended in a heads-up deal with "drew1115" officially winning the event for $8,581 and "NeverNude83" taking second place for $8,219.
Notable players on the final table in this tournament included Jimmy "mooseman1710" Reyes (fourth place - $4,100), AJ "Chips_Jammed" Ten Hoeve (fifth place - $3,550), Joseph "megolaman1ac" Liberta (sixth place - $3,050), and Justin "byeo89" Chmielarz (seventh place - $2,550)
What's Next For New Jersey?
While we earlier mentioned that typically action begins to slow online as the summer starts to approach, we expect the next few weeks to bring plenty of virtual excitement to players in the Garden State.
Next Sunday, May 15, PokerStars NJ is hosting its second Spin & Go Challenge Freeroll, $100,000 Added with 1,170 players cashing for at least $20 and the winner taking home a cool $5,000. Players can automatically qualify by either making their first deposit or completing simple Spin & Go Challenges and featured a structure where players were able to reenter up to three times during the late registration period.
Also starting on Sunday and running through May 30 is the first-ever New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker (NJSCOOP) featuring 54-events with over $1 million in combined guaranteed prize pools. Read more here about the upcoming NJSCOOP.
