Sundays are the biggest day of the week at the world's second largest real-money online poker network 888poker thanks to many of the regular tournament featuring larger guaranteed prize pools when compared to what takes place during the week and some special added tournaments including Mega Deep and the Sunday Challenge each weekend, plus the Whale and the Baby Whale on alternating Sundays.
May was a special month at 888poker, since not only did all these tournaments take place, but also the online poker room hosted its fifth edition of the Super XL Series which featured 40 action-packed tournaments with $3 million in guaranteed prize pools from May 14-22.
Sweden's "Gr33nApples" was the biggest winner of the month after finishing on top of a three-way deal in Event #36 $1,000,000 Super XL - Main Event to collect $183,869. As part of the deal, countryman "BOLAGET.NU" banked $159,691 for second place and the Czech Republic's "Vocaaas" took home $150,832 for third place.
888poker Ambassador Dominik "888Dominik" Nitsche once again proved why he is one of the most feared poker players in the game after taking down Event #37 $150,000 Super XL - Mini Main Event for $36,542. Nitsche, who is currently ranked in seventh place in the Global Poker Index Ranking, might be better known for being one of the top live tournament players with over $5.6 million in tournament cashes which includes three World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets.
Other players to score big during the Super XL were "jewelrunna" finishing on top of Event #4 $150,000 Super XL - Mega Deep for $38,304, "ncqqqqqq" shipping Event #5 $250,000 Super XL - Opening Event for $56,725, and Sebastian "p000cket000" Sikorski winning Event #7 $200,000 Super XL - Whale for $52,709.
Additionally, Event #35 $150,000 Super XL - Mega Deep ended in a four-way deal with "ILovePancake" (1st - $27,456), Richard "ChipsFool" Hoadley (2nd - $27,109), Josh "moccastube" Hart (3rd - $29,167), and "linda_h" (4th - $23,117) all winning big.
Players also took home big paydays outside the Super XL series including "PreyOnDaLine" winning the Whale on May 1 for $32,236 and "Speil13" shipping this same tournament on May 29 for $34,110.
Winners in the Mega Deep included "govand87" (May 1 - $26,775), "Streusalz" (May 8 - $30,806), and Jakub "Olli4.4.4" Oliva (May 29 - $26,888), while winners in the Sunday Challenge included Jonas "KTBFFH89" Jorgensen (May 1 - $18,350), Stevan "poker_mom74" Chew (May 8 - $20,708), "Ozzy_M" (May 15 - $21,737), "2701marko" (May 22 - $19,910), and "I_own_coys85" (May 29 - $18,407).
