Global Poker Index: Lampropulos Leaps Up While Kenney, Petrangelo Still Lead

Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. For a look at the entire list, visit the official GPI website. Here's a look at the rankings as of April 26.

2017 GPI Player of the Year

They're still in a relative holding pattern at the top of the 2017 Global Poker Index Player of the Year leaderboard, where Bryn Kenney remains the leader for a 12th week running. Ari Engel continues to be Kenney's closest challenger, and Engel did close the gap between the two slightly since the last update after cashing in the World Series of Poker Circuit Cherokee Main Event won by Vanessa Truong.

The rest of the top 10 remained the same aside from Loni Harwood inching up a spot to join the list. Harwood also picked up a cash in Cherokee, North Carolina last week to earn few more POY points.

Looking down the POY list, recent upward movers include Salvatore Dicarlo (from No. 32 to No. 14), Mike Leah from No. 53 to No. 29), Maurice Hawkins (from No. 79 to No. 35) and Christian Harder (from No. 60 to No. 44).

GPI 300 Top 10

Things remained steady in the overall GPI rankings as well since last week, with Nick Petrangelo still at No. 1 for a fourth-straight week followed by David Peters and Justin Bonomo. Meanwhile Samuel Panzica rejoined the top 10, moving up from No. 11 to No. 7.

Welcome to the GPI Top 300

Eleven players moved up in the rankings to join the GPI Top 300 this week, with Maria Lampropulos the highest-ranked of the group after ascending all of the way from No. 564 to No. 188 following her big win in the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS Dusk Till Dawn Main Event last weekend.

Lampropulos topped an enormous field comprised of more than 8,500 players taking part in various stages to claim the ��1,000,000 first prize (worth about $1.28 million USD). This marks Lampropulos's first time inside the Top 300, and she also vaults to No. 2 in the current rankings for Argentina players where she sits behind leader Nacho Barbero and a couple of spots ahead of her boyfriend Ivan Luca in fourth.

Biggest Gains

Lampropulos enjoyed the biggest gain of anyone in this week's Top 300, while 2016 November Niner Vojtech Ruzicka made a similarly huge move as well, going from No. 502 to No. 192 after winning the partypokerLIVE MILLIONS Dusk Till Dawn High Roller in which he topped a field of 110 to earn ��284,210.

Biggest Drops

Finally, looking only at players retaining spots inside the GPI Top 300 this week, Max Silver dropped the farthest after slipping from No. 134 to No. 297.

All eyes turn toward the French Riviera this week where the 71-event PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino? is already underway.
