Global Poker Index: Bryn Kenney Widens POY Lead With Super High Roller Win

You might have heard how Bryn Kenney helped kick off the PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino? by winning the 61-entry �100,000 Super High Roller for a huge �1,784,500 first prize.
Already leading the 2017 Global Poker Index Player of the Year race before that win, Kenney extended his lead over the chase pack considerably as he sits comfortably at No. 1 for a 13th-straight week.
Others doing well in Monaco have edged up the POY list as well. Sergio Aido went from No. 4 to No. 3 thanks to a couple of cashes in the Salle des Etoiles at the Sporting Club in Monaco. Koray Aldemir took third place in the �10,300 Opening Eight Max event won by Ole Schemion, enabling Aldemir to move from No. 8 to No. 4.
Daniel Dvoress has had a terrific series as well, making three high roller final tables (so far). He finished third in the �100K won by Kenney, took runner-up in the �50,000 Eight Max Shot Clock event won by Adrian Mateos, and finished seventh in the �25,500 Eight Max Shot Clock event won by Philipp Gruissem. Dvoress cashed in the �5,300 Main Event as well, and has thus moved from No. 14 to No. 8 in the latest GPI POY update.
Finally, Steve O'Dwyer made a big leap from No. 71 to No. 10 to join the POY Top 10 this week after making three final tables of his own in the �10,300 Opening Eight Max (finishing fourth), the �50K Eight Max (finishing sixth), and the �25,500 Eight Max (finishing second).

There was some movement as well this week in the overall GPI rankings to report. Nick Petrangelo retained his lead for a fifth week in a row. He's cashed a couple of times as well in Monaco, going deep in the �50K (fifth) and �25,500 (ninth) Eight Max Shot Clock events.
Kenney moved up a spot to No. 3 after his big Super High Roller win. Fedor Holz �� who spoke with PokerNews this week about the importance of reflection in poker �� took fourth in the �50K and won another side event at PSC Monte-Carlo, helping him move up from No. 5 to No 4.
Former GPI leader Jason Mercier has a couple of Monaco cashes as well, and he's moved up from No. 13 to No. 6, while �50K Eight Max Shot Clock winner Adrian Mateos also improved from No. 9 to No. 7.
Jason Koon, meanwhile, isn't in Monaco, but edged into the Top 10 this week thanks to recent cashes and others' movements in the rankings.

There are 13 new names in this week's GPI Top 300, with Mike Watson the highest-ranked of the group after moving all of the way from No. 452 to No. 134 since the last update. Watson has three cashes at PokerStars Championship Monte-Carlo, and is now less than $20K away from cracking the $10 million-mark in lifetime career tournament earnings.

Watson's big upward move puts him at the top of the "Biggest Gains" list among those in this week's Top 300, with Mortiz Dietrich next in line after elevating from No. 408 to No.169.
Looking at others on this list, Reginald Roberts finished runner-up in a Poker Night in America Tour event in Choctaw, Mikhail Korotkikh also took second in the PokerStars Championship Monte-Carlo National High Roller won by Jack Salter, and Pete Chen won the World Poker Tour Beijing Main Event.

Finally, Stefan Jedlicka fell the furthest since a week ago (looking only at players who remained in the Top 300) after going from No. 101 to No. 240.

The Playground Poker Spring Classic is well underway at the Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, Quebec, as is the Spring Poker Open at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in New Jersey. WPT Amsterdam 2017 also gets started tomorrow at the Holland Casino in the Netherlands.
