'The Apprentice' Runner-Up and 'Boise Boys' Star Clint Robertson Takes on the WSOP
We're more than halfway through the 50th Annual World Series of Poker with almost 60 events in the books and there are tons of characters roaming the hallways of the Rio.
Among these players is The Apprentice runner-up and Boise Boys star Clint Robertson. The Texas native now lives in Boise, Idaho with his wife, Sandy, and their three boys.
Robertson is in Las Vegas playing poker at the WSOP, a game that him and his partner Luke Caldwell love to play together. The two friends are stars on Boise Boys, a show on the Home & Garden Television (HGTV) network. They are now into their third season, with the second season currently airing on HGTV.
"I won in a big way. But I was told I said 'y'all' too much, so I wasn't gonna fit the Trump life."
"Luke's like this skinny jean man, purse designer and you can tell - I'm just a big burly guy. So I'm the contractor on the show, and Luke's the designer," Robertson told PokerNews.
Robertson made a deep run in Event #53: $800 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack last week, finishing in 66th place for a payout worth $3,904. "Texas hold'em isn't legal in Texas, but I just started playing more now on a professional level," explained Robertson. He plays live cash games and tournaments but began playing online during the internet poker boom.
Blending Life, Business and Poker
The TV star is also an attorney and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by trade but is taking poker more seriously now. Robertson believes there's a crossover between life, business and poker and that is why he is successful.
"Everything in life is about other people. And the more you know about other people, the more successful you can be in this life," explained Robertson.
"You can actually see whether the other people are your competition in this poker tournament, or whether people are working with you in business. You can see what their skillsets are. If you're playing poker you can jump on the weaknesses. If they're in your business you can actually use those skillsets to bring people up and put them in the right places."

Robertson's partner, Caldwell, also loves to play but is on a separate mission of his own.
"Luke and I both love poker, but the cool thing about Luke is he's adopted four children and he's in Ukraine right now adopting another child. So Luke's bringing home a new baby. He's doing something better than I'm doing. I'm just playing poker," laughed Robertson.
During his deep run on The Apprentice, hosted by now-President Donald Trump, Robertson was able to showcase his business skills but fell just short, finishing as runner-up.
"I went all the way through. It's a business competition. My final task, I won in a big way. But I was told I said 'y'all' too much, so I wasn't gonna fit the Trump life," laughed Robertson.
Now, Robertson is focused on his show and career as a poker player. He hopes to win "several gold bracelets, just like everyone else. I gotta get one first though!"
