Poland's Jakub Grzegorzek finished on top of a field of 1,151 entrants to win the EPT Open Madrid 1,100 Main Event for 176,357 ($199,248) after agreeing to a heads-up deal with Germany's Michael Kosmis at the Casino Gran Madrid Torrelodones.

It was a historic day for Grzegorzek as the 24-year-old lawyer by profession, and IT professional by trade won the very first live poker tournament he ever played in.

"Still in shock but Im sure it will hit me within a few hours. It was an awesome experience."

"I think its a great entry-level event," said Grzegorzek about the EPT Open. "Its not that small nor too big. Overall its a great first-time poker experience for anybody, and I would definitely recommend it!"

Both Grzegorzek and Kosmis qualified into the event online at PokerStars with the former coming into heads-up play with a more than 2:1 chip advantage. The duo agreed to a deal that left 8,000 and the trophy to be played for.

Kosmis mounted a small comeback in the heads-up match but had to settle for a healthy 140,373 consolation prize after he got it in with ace-four suited for top pair against Grzegorzek's queen-seven who hit a straight.

Michael Kosmis just missed out on the EPT Open Madrid Main Event trophy

This was still an incredible result for Kosmis who has been playing poker for a decade, but - as like Grzegorzek - this was his first live poker tournament. Meanwhile, Grzegorzek was on top of the world after the win.

"Im extremely happy," said Grzegorzek to PokerStars after the win. "Still in shock but Im sure it will hit me within a few hours. It was an awesome experience."
