The 2019 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOP) at King's Resort, located on the German border in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, is a wrap. The festival was once a huge success, with fifteen gold bracelets awarded.
It only fitted that Europe's most prestigious poker tournament festival was once again held at King's Resort, who will once again be home to the WSOPE next year.
The 23,000,000 in guarantees was smashed with 7,050 entrants showing up for the 15 bracelet events to generate combined prize pools of 29,241,920. The fifteen bracelet winners alone took home 8,799,415 in prizes on top of the coveted gold bracelets.
Here is a look at some of the highlights of the 2019 WSOP Europe:
Alexandros Kolonias Wins the Main Event
The highlight of the WSOPE was easily Event #14: 10,350 Main Event No-Limit Hold'em on Oct. 25-31. The event surpassed its advertised 5,000,000 guarantee attracting 541 entrants to generate a 5,139,500 prize pool. This represented seven more players than the 2018 version of the WSOPE Main Event won by Jack Sinclair for 1,122,239.
Greece's Alexandros Kolonias won his first WSOP bracelet in style by shipping the event for a huge top prize of 1,133,678. He not only etched his name in the WSOP history books, but by increasing his career live poker earnings to $3,729,554, he supplanted country-mate Georgios Sotiropoulos for the top spot on The Hendon Mob All Time Money List.
More WSOPE Highlights
While Kolonias was the star of the show, two other players won bigger prizes during the WSOPE. Taiwan's James Chen won the biggest prize of the festival after finishing on top of a small field of 30 entrants in Event #4: 250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em to win the 2,844,215 prize.
Malaysia's Chin Wei Lim was perhaps the bigger story. Lim not only finished in second place in Event #4 for 1,757,857 but won a bigger prize and his first gold bracelet after navigated through a field of 72 entrants to ship Event #12: 100,000 Diamond High Roller No-Limit Hold'em for 2,172,104.
Meanwhile, Australia's Kahle Burns, who never previously found WSOP gold, won two gold bracelets in less than a week. Burns first bested a field of 83 entrants to win Event #8: 25,500 Platinum High Roller No-Limit Hold'em for 596,833 before a few days later coming out on top of a field of 179 entrants to win Event #13: 2,500 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em for 101,834.
Two of the events attracted more than 1,000 entrants. France's Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier then won the largest attended event after besting a huge field of 2,738 entrants to win Event #15: 550 Colossus No-Limit Hold'em for 190,375.

Daniel Negreanu Wins WSOP Player of the Year
Robert Campbell left Las Vegas this summer as the leader of the WSOP Player of the Year leaderboard with 2018 WSOP Player of the Year Shaun Deeb and 2004 and 2013 WSOP Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu close on his tail.
Deeb closed the gap after two events but wasn't able to grab the lead. Negreanu passed both Campbell and Deeb on the leaderboard ten events into the schedule to take the lead on the leaderboard, but it was a sweat until the very end.
It came down to a race between Deeb and Negreanu deep into the final event of the schedule, Event #15: 550 Colossus No-Limit Hold'em. Deeb battled through the 2,738-entrant field to make the final day in third place with eleven players remaining. He needed a fifth-place finish to become the first player to win the award in back-to-back years. Deeb ran into some early struggles before he was the first player out on the final day to secure the 2019 WSOP Player of the Year award to KidPoker.
Sulked for a bit thinking of hoping in and doing some commentary. Im sure plenty of people want to roast me but yo https://t.co/hWaJlBZ4iA

Negreanu not only became the first player to win the WSOP Player of the Year award three times but also became the first to win the prestigious award without winning a gold bracelet during the year.
