The $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event was better value than ever at 888poker this weekend, thanks to its buy-in being slashed from $109 to a more affordable $55. Although the 1,958 entrants left a slight overlay on the guarantee, attracting almost 2,000 players to the 888poker tables outside a tournament series is a solid achievement.

Day 1 ended with only eight of those 1,958 starters in contention to become the tournament's champion. The biggest bounty of $10,000 had already been won by this stage, with Germany's "geniuspoker" pulling it from its golden envelope before falling in 114th place.

Denmark's "Svinth" was the player to catch as the final table got underway, with Ukraine's "haha_mUCK_IT" bringing up the rear with only a single big blind.

A technical issue meant the 888poker Twitch stream started when "haha_mUCK_IT" and German grinder "POTCHECKER99" had bowed out. Mexico's "Gamaliel4" also crashed out leaving only five players in the hunt for the $6,520 top prize and the all-important mystery bounties.

Those five became four when "1obanoff" open-shoved from under the gun for 12.2 big blind with pocket eights, and "DeepRedSea" called from the button with ace-queen. An ace on the turn sent "1obanoff" to the rail in fifth.

Start of the day chip leader "Svinth" was the next to bust, doing so in a battle of the blinds against "DeepRedSea." "Svinth open-shoved for eight big blinds with king-four, and was called by ace-three of diamonds. A four on the flop put "Svinth" in front, but an ace on the river sent them to the rail.

The tournament progressed to heads-up after the demise of "Iperenoei13" who made an ill-timed move. "luvadeboxe" min-raised on the button, the small blind folded, but "lperenoei13" three-bet all-in for 33 big blinds with queen-nine of diamonds. "luvadeboxe" quickly called with the dominating ace-queen, and the ace kicker was strong enough to reduce the player count by one.

That hand gave "luvadeboxe" a huge chip lead of 70.5 big blinds to 13.4 big blinds over "DeepRedSea." The contest was over rather quickly, with "luvadeboxe" shoving with jack-eight and "DeepRedSea" calling off their last three big blinds or so with ace-four. A jack on the flop and an eight on the turn won the hand and the tournament for "luvadeboxe," who walked away with $8,022.

It wasn't only the $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event that enjoyed the Sunday Sale treatment because the $30,000 Big Shot 525 received it too. Instead of paying $525 to enter this week's event, players forked out $265.

Some 179 players took advantage of the reduced prize, resulting in a $44,750 prize pool. 888poker ambassador Vivian "Vivi.888" Saliba came close to taking down this event, but ultimately finished in fifth place for a still respectable $2,667.

German "ZockSteffen, who recently won the XL Spring Series Tune Up Event for $16,514, walked away with the top prize of $10,033.
