The 888poker Super Xl Series kicks off on Saturday, September 17 with the first of its 40 scheduled events. By the time it completes, the series will have awarded at least $4 million in cash to those players lucky and skilful enough to navigate their way to the money places.

One of the most eagerly anticipated events is the $1,050 buy-in Main Event with its $1,500,000 guaranteed prize pool, a tournament that is expected to be one of the softest $1K buy-in fields thanks to the plethora of satellites 888poker runs in the build-up to it.

Obviously, winning the XL Super Series Main Event would mean you had won big. But here are five more tips to increase your chances of winning big during the $4 million guaranteed series at 888poker.

1. Take Advantage of The Welcome Bonus

888poker offers all new depositing players a free $20 when they 888poker using the bonus code "POKERNEWS20" when you do. Any sum of free money is always welcome, but this free $20 could be used to buy into Super XL Series events such as the $8.80 Crazy 8 Super XL Kickoff ($10,000 guaranteed), the $12 Mini Opening Event Multi Chance ($50,000 guaranteed), or the $5 Micro Main Event ($15,000 guaranteed) where you would essentially be freerolling.

2. Enter the Super XL Satellites

There are dozens of Super XL Satellites running each day that give you the chance to turn a tiny investment into a seat in one of the bigger buy-in events. Some of these satellites are free to enter once you have completed a specific poker-related challenge check your emails from 888poker and even award $1,050 Main Event tickets!

If you manage to bag one of these, you're already winning big!

3. Register For Events Early

Although the Super XL Series tournaments have plenty of late registration available meaning you can arrive late to the party in Hellmuthesque fashion you should try to register for each tournament early and play from the start.

When a tournament first shuffles up and deals, all of the weaker players are still in the field, and you can take full advantage of that fact, hopefully winning their stack before they donate those chips to someone else.

Registering late has some positive points, but as a general rule, a large percentage of the weaker players will have busted by the time the late registration period is drawing to a close, leaving the field much tougher than at the start.

4. Play For The Win

This may seem obvious, but you should play for the win. Some players are happy to play super-tight and almost fold their way to the money places. Again, there can be plus points to doing this, yet for the most part you should be doing everything in your power to win the tournament, or at least navigate your way to the final table where the big money prizes are.

While it is true that doing this will quite often result in you busting before the money as you will have to take calculated risks, reaching the final table or even winning an Super XL Series event should more than make up for the times you fall short.

5. Read Articles From the PokerNews Strategy Section

Another way to increase your chances of winning big during the Super XL Series is to improve your knowledge of poker. Some training sites charge you for the ability to do this, but if you visit the strategy section of PokerNews you'll discover hundreds of articles and videos from a variety of different poker players and poker-loving writers for free, nada, zilch.

All you need to do then is apply what you have read or watched, and try to take down one of the 888poker Super XL Series tournaments.
