The Five Levels of Trainer Mastery
Learning poker is daunting, but GTO Wizard have split its trainer into five different levels that can be approached in order. If you've ever wondered where you should start out using the GTO Trainer, then Level 1 is for you.
Starting there allows you to improve quickly while following a set path and order.
Level 1: The Apprentice
The most important thing when you approach your poker training is to create a solid foundation that will aid you throughout the rest of your learning.
This involves learning optimal preflop opening and defending ranges. This will enable you to be one step ahead of those also starting out at low-stakes. Level 1 drills on GTO Wizard include analyzing preflop opens, and big blind defense from a variety of different positions.
Level 2: The Novice
For the second level, it's time to look at some trickier preflop spots and start to introduce some postflop study into the routine. Don't worry! There are a lot more complications when it comes to preflop, but Level 2 sees you look exclusively at flop actions...for now!
GTO Wizard has a great video on preflop mechanics. You can check it out here:
Level 3: The Scholar
Get ready for even more spots. This is the first level on GTO Wizard where you approach full hands, in three different spots:
- Button vs Big Blind (Single raise preflop)
- Big blind vs Under the Gun (Single raise preflop)
- Big blind vs In-Position (Single raise preflop)
There are plenty of other three-bet spots for you to work on both preflop and flop only but these will help get you ready for even more complex spots in the next two levels.
Level 4: The Mage
Think exotic. Think unusual. Level 4 throws some typically less studied spot sinto the mix. GTO Wizard offers a wealth of resources that can be used to deepen your understanding of three-bet and four-bet pots, and extended study of these spot will allow you to play proficiently at this level, and enable you to have an edge on almost all online low-stakes and live competition.
Level 5: The Wizard
Throw them ALL together and what do you get? Actual play simulation. This throws every single spot possible at you, and allows you to explore a variety of complex spots using all the knowledge you've gained so far.
Don't get overawed by the fact that GTO Wizard throws every single possible spot at you it still takes time to fuse both strategic thinking and instinctual feeling into your poker training.
Conclusion
Remember, learning is a continuous process in poker or in any other subject. By applying yourself daily, and following through on that plan, then improvement is inevitable!
