The latest guest on the Strategy with Kristy podcast is Canadian poker pro Jason Lavallee, a successful tournament and cash-game player both live and online. He recently won the PokerStars European Poker Tour London High Roller event for 357,700. During the final table, he played an interesting hand which resulted in him calling a river bet with queen high. Lavallee shares his thought process.

Here is the hand as written by live updates author Rich Ryan:

Level 23: 15,000-30,000, 4,000 ante

Jason Lavallee raised to 60,000 in middle position, and two players called Carla Sabini on the button and Sorel Mizzi in the big blind. The dealer fanned 8?9?3?, Mizzi checked, and Lavallee examined Mizzi's stack before tossing out a continuation-bet of 78,000. Only Sabini called.

The turn brought a second three the 3? and Lavallee checked. Sabini quickly pushed out a small stack of pumpkin T25,000 chips, making it 100,000 to go, and Lavallee called.

The K? completed the board, Lavallee knuckled again, and Sabini immediately reached for chips. She fired out 160,000 (less than 30% of the pot), and Lavallee chuckled before calling. Sabini showed Q?10? for a busted gutshot draw, and her fellow countryman tabled Q?J? for a better queen-high.

One of the biggest leaks of non-experienced players is that they usually don't value bet light enough. Just in general, they play a little bit too polarized. They'll bet their really big hands or their absolute air, but they won't really know what to do the middle part of their range.
