WPT GTO Trainer Hands of the Week: Restealing Against The Button

This week were focused on a tournament scenario where you are out of position against a tough player on the Button after 3-betting their open raise from 2.5BBs to 7.5BBs from the Small Blind.

Your 3-betting range from the Small Blind is going to be fairly narrow and linear, consisting mostly of hands in the upper portion of the Buttons opening hand range. Since the Buttons starting range here is quite wide and you made a somewhat small out of position raise, the Button is getting compelling pot odds here to continue with much of their opening hand range.

The Button should continue in this spot with a large portion of their range, which means you have a significant range advantage on the flop leading to an extremely high c-betting frequency. In fact, it is quite common for you to c-bet the flop nearly 100% of the time. The notable exceptions would be when you flop a complete board lock like top set or top two pair on a dry board, or if the board is EXTREMELY connected and coordinated.

Since you will be c-betting so frequently its important to have a very good two barreling strategy or the Button will be able to exploit you by floating frequently or simply raise your c-bets. This means two barreling with a wider range for both value, sometimes as wide as second pair, and as a bluff when you have a significant nut and equity advantage. With stacks starting at 40BBs and since the pot is 3-bet preflop this will often mean the turn bet could be all-in.
