Finally Out Of The Gates

Garry Gates
Garry Gates
Action folded around to PokerNews' own Garry Gates who popped it up to 1,100 from the small blind. His opponent made the call in the big blind and they went to a flop.

It arrived {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Gates fired out 1,200. His opponent re-checked his hole cards before making the call.

The turn was the {2-Hearts} and Gates fired once more for 2,000. His opponent quickly called and the {9-Diamonds} hit the river. Gates checked and his opponent checked behind revealing {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for a rivered straight, but Gates had the only diamond with his {4-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} taking down the pot with a flush.

A few minutes later Gates was in the middle of the action again. After raising a preflop limper to 1,300, and then finding two callers, the flop arrived {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.

The limper led out for 2,500, with Gates and the third player both calling. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and action checked to Gates who bet 3,500. One fold, before the original limper check-raised the minimum to 7,000. Gates called and the river arrived the {10-Spades}.

Again it was a check to Gates who commented, "This is probably a bad check but you may have filled up," before checking behind.

The limper tabled {Q-?}{8-?} for a pair of eights as Gates' {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} collected the pot.

A few airport dramas yesterday and a touch of jetlag seem to now be behind the American as Gates moves up to 42,000 chips.
