Advantage Shklover

Level 16 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

Mike Shklover has taken back the chip lead after taking another couple of big pots from David Ewing.

Shklover limped in from the button and Ewing checked his option from the big blind to see a flop of {J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Ewing led out for 18,000 after the flop and then fired out 37,500b on the turn of the {5-Hearts}.

Shklover followed along and then both players checked the river of the {10-Clubs} before Shklover showed {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for the straight.

A short time later, Ewing raised to 27,000 from the button and Shklover called before check-calling Ewing's bet of 15,500 on the flop of {4-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{j-Spades}. Both players checked the turn of the {8-Diamonds} before Shklover fired out 70,000 on the river of the {5-Hearts}. Ewing thought about it long and hard before letting his hand go.

Somebody please go and tell the fat lady that she'll need to wait a while, this one's not over yet.

Shklover Takes Them Back

Level 15 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Just when we thought David Ewing was going to even things up, Mike Shklover has taken them back as this heads-up battle continues.

Ewing raised to 16,000 from the button before the flop and Shklover called before leading out for 20,000 on the flop of {9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Ewing called, then both players checked the turn of the {6-Hearts} before betting 8,000 on the river of the {9-Hearts}.

Ewing smiled, but still appeared confused by that rather small river bet. He still called, only to muck his cards after Shklover showed {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for the straight.

Two hands later, Ewing raised to 16,000 from the button and Shklover called before both players checked the flop of {7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. Shklover check-called Ewing's bet of 19,000 on the turn of the {K-Hearts}, then both players checked the river {7-Hearts}. Shklover's {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} was good enough to take it down.

Ewing's Chipping Away

Level 15 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

David Ewing is now starting to make a move and has built his stack to over 250,000 in chips after taking the early advantage in this heads-up battle against Mike Shklover.

Most of the small pots are heading towards Ewing's direction, but we've seen a couple of bigger ones as well. Earlier, Shklover raised to 17,000 from the button and Ewing called before both players checked the flop of {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}.

Ewing check-called Shklover's bet of 20,000 on the turn of the {10-Hearts} before both players checked the river of the {A-Spades}; Ewing's {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts} was good enough to take the pot down.

In the very next hand, Ewing raised to 16,000 from the button and Shklover called before both players checked the flop that read {3-Spades}{4-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. Shklover check-called Ewing's bet of 21,000 on the turn of the {8-Hearts}, only then to check-fold after Ewing fired out 36,500 on the river of the {8-Clubs}.

Graeme Putt Eliminated in 3rd Place (AUD $35,000)

Level 15 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Graeme "Kiwi G" Putt stormed back from the short stack and into the chip lead, but has just lost them all to Mike Shklover to bow out in third place.

Putt and Shklover went heads-up to the flop of {6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}; Shklover check-called Putt's bet after the flop and then check-called again when Putt fired out 60,000 on the turn of the {4-Spades}.

With the pot worth 234,000, Shklover open-shoved for 167,000 on the river of the {Q-Diamonds}. Putt went deep into the tank - for what seemed like over three minutes - before making the call, only to muck after Shklover showed down {K-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the straight, leaving Putt with just 9,000 in chips, essentially forcing him all-in from the big blind in the very next hand.

Shklover and David Ewing both called and then they checked all the way down the board of {6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. Shklover's {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} was good enough to take the pot down and Putt's now off to the cage to pick AUD $35,000 in prizemoney - a solid effort from the New Zealand veteran.

Ewing and Shklover are now taking an unscheduled "smoko" for about 5-10 minutes. Back soon!

William Thorson Eliminated in 4th Place (AUD $25,000)

Level 15 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

After Graeme Putt doubled up David Ewing, William Thorson finally gave up the last of his chips to Mike Sklover to bow out in fourth place.

Earlier, Ewing moved up to more than 130,000 in chips after getting the last of his money into the middle on a flop of {5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} with {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{J-Spades}{8-Spades} against Putt's {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}. The turn and river ran out {10-Spades}, {2-Hearts} and despite both players making two pair, Ewing's overpair was best.

Moments later, on a flop that read {Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, Thorson moved his last 30,000 in chips in with {Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, but ran into Shklover's {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Neither the turn of the {A-Diamonds} or the river {2-Clubs} could save him, but Thorson can take comfort in the fact that he's now been credited with AUD $25,000.
