Turning Rags into Riches

In the last hand before break, Jason Mercier tangled with one of his table mates in a pot worth more than 30,000 chips. Here's how the hand went down.

With Mercier on the button, he saw five players limp into the pot. Looking down at {2-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}, the pro came in with a raise to 1,050. Only one of the original limpers came along, and it was heads up to the flop.

It brought {4-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {5-Hearts}. The limper led out for a bet of 2,000, which Mercier called.

The turn came the {3-Spades}, and again there was an initial bet of 2,000, which Mercier matched.

Fifth street was the {3-Clubs}, and once more the player fired out 2,000 chips. This time though, Mercier moved all in for about 10,000, and his opponent made the call. Mercier turned over his {2-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}, prompting his opponent to slam the table in disgust. He shipped most of his chips across the table, quietly mumbling that he held {9-?} {9-?}. Mercier, meanwhile, is up to around 30,000 in chips.
