Event 11: $1,090 $100,000 Guaranteed Six-Max NLHE Reentry
Day 2 Completed
It was a heart-filled day for Jeff Madsen as the three time World Series of Poker bracelet winner would hit three heart flushes for huge pots, none huger than the final hand in his heads up match with Kevin Saul to deliver him the 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open $1,090 Six-Max title. For his excellent two days of play, Madsen took home $52,150 and a trophy.
"I don't have one of these," Madsen said as he posed with his trophy while adding that he would of course be taking part in the World Poker Tour Championship Event that starts on Monday. Madsen outlasted 192 entries in earning this victory and in the process adds to his over $4 million in lifetime tournament winnings and builds on what has already been an impressive 2014 with his third win of the year. Madsen would comment on this on Twitter shortly after:
Thank u for the sweats twitter peeps, have great friends, appreciate the support . Been a good year, been focused #Follow @JeffMadsenobv
Kevin Saul, his heads up counterpart is no slouch at the tables either with over $2.7 million in career tournament earnings including a win in the $2,000 Heads-Up Bounty tournament at the 2013 Borgata Poker Open. Saul would grab the chip lead three handed when he won a huge pot against Magaly Descalzi by shoving all in on the river and getting her to fold. He would collect $30,823 for his finish here today. Despite the loss, Saul took it in good spirits:
Thanks all for the support, somebody's gotta lose every time heads up. Couple days off then WPT championship TuesdayFollow @BeL0WaB0Ve
Finishing in 3rd place for $23,746 was Magalay Descalzi, who impressed everyone at the table with her fearless play. This was Descalzi's first reported tournament cash and considering who she was up against, she more than held her own. Another poker great, Justin Young, would fall to Descalzi at the final table when his Queens ran into her Aces. He'd have to settle for a 4th place finish that was worth $18,624.
Also reaching the final table but falling short of the ultimate goal of winning the trophy were Joshua Sisak (5th - $14,434) and Michael Cohen (6th- $10,243). Others that would make the money included Emad Alabsi (16th - $1,862), Matt Iles (14th - $1,862), Anthony Maio (12th - $2,607), Bob Hwang (11th - $2,607), Alex Rocha (9th - $3,725), and Elliott Zaydman (7th - $7,915).
There is still plenty of poker action to take place at the 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open and PokerNews will be here to bring you continuous coverage of all of the main events, including the WPT World Championship that starts on Monday!
