On Thursday, the 2012 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event continued as 61 players returned to play down to the final 24. After just over three levels of play, Samuel Rodriguez finished atop the chip counts with 5,330,000.

Day 4 kicked off with a bang when short-stacked Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder got all in preflop with {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and was racing against the {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} of Felix Kretchmann. The {6-Hearts}{K-Spades}{10-Spades} flop didn't hit De Meulder directly, but it did give him an added gut-shot straight draw to go with his overs. The {K-Hearts} turn gave the Belgian counterfeits outs as well, but the {8-Hearts} river blanked. With that, De Meulder exited the tournament floor and left Fatima Moreira de Melo as the last Team PokerStars Pros remaining.

Over the next few hours the field began to shrink as players like Yuri Gulyy (57th-14,150), Kevin Weiland (56th-16,800), Konstantin Puchkov (48th-16,800), Andrey Zaichenko (45th-16,800) and Zimnan Ziyard (44th-16,800) all made their way to the payout desk.

In Level 21, Jonathan xMONSTERxDONGx Karamalikis became the new chip leader and the first to break the two million mark. It happened when a played opened to 25,000, Karamalikis three-bet to 65,000 from the small blind, and Kretchmann four-bet to 150,000 from the big. The original raiser folded, Karamalikis five-bet to 275,000, a call ensued and the flop fell {q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Karamalikis continued for 340,000 and then called all-in when his German opponent shoved.

Showdown
Karamalikis: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Kretchmann: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Karamalikis doubled to 2.65 million. Kretchmann was eliminated a few hands later in 39th place for 20,000.

Others to fall toward midday were Leo Margets (42nd-16,800), Daniel Rudd (36th-20,000), Guy Thomas (33rd-20,000), Konstantin Streletskiy (29th-24,650), Anatoly Gurtavoy (28th-24,650), and Ilan Boujenah (25th-24,650).

While 37 failed to survive the day, 24 did. Among them are , sport star de Melo; online poker legend Ilari Ilari FIN Sahamies; five-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner John Juanda; Day 1a chip leader Aku Joentausta; Season 7 EPT Prague winner Roberto Romanello; and the start-of-the-day chip leader Antonin Duda.

Margets and Prendiville Hit the Rail

Leo Margets on Day 3
Leo Margets on Day 3

After action folded to John Juanda in the cutoff and he raised to 26,000, Anton Sinel three-bet to 65,000 from the small blind. Leo Margets had been relatively quiet today, but she decided this was the time and four-bet all in for a little over 300,000. Juanda quickly got out of the way and Sinel, who barely had her covered, snap-called.

Showdown
Margets: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Sinel: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}

Margets knew she was in trouble and rose from her chair in preparation of her elimination. The {Q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop brought her one step closer to the door, but the {J-Hearts} turn gave her pause as she was drawing live to a ten headed to the river. "Please," Margets said with a smile to the dealer, who did not oblige by putting out the {5-Spades}.

Meanwhile, Sean Prendiville has been eliminated from the Feature Table.

Welcome Back to Day 4 of EPT Barcelona

Antonin Duda, the man to catch.
Antonin Duda, the man to catch.

It's already Day 4 here at the Main Event of the opening festival of Season 9 on the European Poker Tour. The plan for today from inside the Casino Barcelona is to play from 61 players down to 24.

The field is still absolutely stacked with talent and back story so today should be thrilling, and will probably be our shortest day of the week. We have former winners in the shape of Zimnan Ziyard and Roberto Romanello, and we have former runner-ups in Lucille Cailly and John Juanda.

Team PokerStars are still being represented by Fatima Moreira de Melo and Matthias De Meulder. Moreira De Melo is looking to make her first EPT final table and comes back with a top-five stack, but De Meulder has the second shortest stack and needs a lot of help.

We also have the talented Ilari Sahamies, Jonathan Karamalikis, Morten Mortensen, Eddie Tasbas, Ben Jackson, and Ilan Boujenah to look out for.

Join us back here at 12:00 PM CET when the action will kick off again.
