Berende Doubles Through Piqu

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Gerard Piqu¨¦ (Day 1)
Gerard Piqu (Day 1)

From early position, Gerard Piqu raised to 5,500. Paul Berende flat-called on the button, then Kristijonas Andrulis came along with a call from the big blind. On the {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop, fireworks flew between Piqu and Berende.

First, Andrulis checked, then Piqu tossed out a bet of 9,500. Berende raised all in for 54,500, and Andrulis quickly folded. Piqu made the call holding the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} for top pair, top kicker. Berende had better, though, with the {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} after slyly just calling in position with the two kings preflop.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, leaving Piqu needing an ace or a queen on the river to win the hand and bust Berende. The {6-Hearts} paired the board, and that was a big brick as far as Berende was concerned. Piqu's losing hand was mucked, and Berende scooped the pot with two pair, kings and sixes, to double up.
