Welcome to the 2024 PokerStars €1,100 France Poker Series (FPS) Paris Main Event

Alan Goasdoue

The city of love welcomes poker enthusiasts from all over the world on Valentine's Day as card sharks embark on their journey in the 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris festival at the stunning Le Palais des Congres in cooperation with Le Club Barrière Paris.

For two weeks, card sharks for near and far will compete for millions of Euros in prize money and the series is expected to topple the turnout of the 2023 EPT Paris stop, which commenced with a record turnout in the opening €1,100 France Poker Series (FPS) Paris Main Event. The very same event highlights the start of the series once more and in the days to come, the 2,071 entry-strong attendance may very well be challenged.

One year ago, it was local player Alan Goasdoue who defeated fellow Frenchman Jean-Luc Labryga in heads-up play to earn €287,830 for his efforts, the far biggest cash prize in his young poker career. Five of the nine finalists were representing the Tricolore while notables such as Elias Fisz, Chris Dowling and Vasyl Zabrodskyy also reached the final table as well.

Many of those who ran deep in 2023 are expected to return to Paris for another shot at a big payday. There are six starting days available between February 14 and 16, 2024, and today will feature two flights. Day 1a kicks off at noon local time while Day 1b is set to get underway at 6 p.m. local time.

All participants receive 30,000 in starting chips and the aim for each Day 1 is reaching the top 15 percent of the field to secure a cash prize, as that's when the action will conclude. A maximum of seven entries are allowed across all flights with the first appearance counting as the initial entry. Each starting day then subsequently permits one re-entry and the registration for each of them closes after the end of level ten.

The 2024 FPS Paris Main Event final table will be live-streamed with cards-up coverage and commentary on a 30-minute delay. It is just one of several tournaments to be broadcasted on the PokerStars channels and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to cover all major events on the schedule.

In a hand that started several minutes into the old level still, the action was picked up with a flop of 6?5?3? on which Joseph Querleux in the cutoff checked. Jorge Ufano on the button bet 2,800 into around 4,000 and Querleux c called.

The same action repeated for 7,000 on the 8? turn and Querleux then checked the 5? river. Ufano jammed for 18,700 and Querleux with the covering stack sighed, then folded the Q?Q? face-up after more than one minute in the tank.

Rabahie Among the Early Chip Leaders

Level 3 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante

Picking up the action on the J?9?7?7? turn, Fouad Rabahie bet 3,800 from under the gun and Hussen Mohallim called on the button. That led to the A? river on which Rabahie bet another 3,500. Pim Gieles

Andrej Desset just lost a bigger pot when he check-folded the K?Q?2? flop to a bet worth 4,000 by table neighbour Nemo Israel. He opened to 700 next and Andreas Putz defended the big blind only to snap-fold the Q?Q?2? flop when Desset had barely put his continuation bet in.

Desset raised to 700 once more in the very next hand. Israel called before Pim Gieles three-bet to 3,000 in the next seat. Only Israel called and check-called for 2,800 on the J?9?4? flop. Gieles bet another 7,000 when checked to by Israel on the 3? turn to pick up a call and then faced the shove by Israel on the 6? river.

Gieles had 15,200 behind and called all-in to get shown the K?Q? for a busted straight and flush draw, which he had beat with the Q?Q? to score the double.
