The France Poker Series (FPS) Aix-les-Bains €1,100 Main Event hosted by PokerStars got off to a commendable start after drawing 135 entrants on Day 1a, which was just shy of the 143 entrants that showed up on Day 1a last year here inside the Casino Grand Cercle.

After 14 levels of play, Kevin Hasler emerged as the overall leader of the 31 remaining players after bagging 240,000 in chips. Not far behind him is Damien Noraz, who managed to secure 236,000, and rounding out the top three is Kevin Naegelen, who ended with the only other player over 200k with 207,000.

Julien Dupre, who is well known for his streaming career in the e-sports game League of Legends, was in attendance from the start and endured a swingy day that involved both getting lucky and getting caught bluffing. Despite busting one bullet and being down to half a starting stack late in the day, Dupre managed to mount a comeback and ended with 178,000 — good for the seventh spot overall.

PokerStars ambassadors Benjamin Bruneteaux and Julien Brecard took their seats at the start of the day in hopes of running up a stack. While Brecard ended up busting two bullets before dinner break, Bruneteaux fared better and managed to bag up a respectable 163,000 by the day's end.

Defending champion Alban Juen participated in various side events earlier in the week, however, Juen indicated he would not be participating in the main event due to prior engagements, which means a new champion will be crowned.

Remy Murcia, who made the final table and placed sixth of an FPS earlier this year at PokerStars EPT Monte Carlo, is poised to make another deep run after bagging 177,000.

Other less fortunate notables who were unable to make Day 2 include Felix Schneiders, Lylian Baunez, Ali Boulacel, Youcef Benzerfa, and Coralie Sferrazza, who busted late in the day in dramatic fashion after shoving preflop and getting called by Murcia, who caught a winning pair on the river.

Day 1b is scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 3 at 1 p.m. local time and will follow an identical structure and schedule as Day 1a. Players who entered and busted on Day 1a will be allowed one (re)entry on Day 1b, while all new entrants on Day 1b will be permitted to reenter once should they bust on their first bullet.

Gouzil Forces Three Folds in Bloated Pot

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Herve Gouzil opened to 3,500 from early position and was called by Hakim El Rhayti from directly behind and another player in middle position. The player on the button squeezed to 13,500 and everyone called for a monster four-way pot.

Action checked through on the 5?5?3? flop and Gouzil shoved for 55,000 after the 3? double-paired the board. Everyone folded to the button, who turned over AxQx and folded as well.

Gouzil tabled 10?7? for a flush draw with two overcards before collecting the pot.

Sferrazza Makes the Right Call

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

On a board of 7?A?6?8? with several thousand already in the middle, Julien Dupre bet 7,000 from the big blind and was called by Coralie Sferrazza in early position.

The 8? completed the board and Dupre fired 13,000 into the middle, sending Sferrazza deep into the tank.

Sferrazza eventually decided to stick in a call and Dupre could only show 3?2? for a busted flush draw. Sferrazza tabled 10?10? for tens and eights and was sent the pot.

The player on the button shoved for her last 4,700 and Julien Dupre also went all in for more from the small blind. The player in the big blind folded and a showdown was held.

Button: 8?8?All in
Julien Dupre: 6?6?

Dupre was in rough shape with his lower pair, but the 6?10?J?3?10? runout improved him to a full house for the elimination.

Baunez Spikes a Jack to Triple up

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

The player in the hijack opened to 1,700 and was three-bet to 4,500 by Lylian Baunez in the cutoff. The player on the button called cold and Victor Guinand shoved for 26,700 from the big blind.

The initial raiser folded, Baunez called all in for approximately 16,000 and the player on the button called as well for a three-way all in.

Lylian Baunez: J?J?All in
Victor Guinand: A?A?All in
Button: A?Q?

Guinand had way the best of it with his aces, but the J?4?2? flop vaulted Baunez into the lead with a set of jacks.

The 6? turn and 10? river changed nothing and Baunez was awarded the triple up while Guinand was left short.

Ghillain Nearly Triples up

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

Cid Ghillain, Jeremie Essertel, and the player in the cutoff were in a pot on a flop of 5?8?J?.

Ghillain was already all in for approximately 20,000 on the button and the player in the cutoff was all in for a bit less. Essertel had both players covered and called from the big blind.

Cutoff: 5?5?All in
Cid Ghillain: 10?9?All in
Jeremie Essertel: 8?8?

Essertel found himself in great shape to score a double-elimination with his set of eights, but the 7? turn filled Ghillain's straight to take the lead.

The 2? river bricked out and Gillain nearly tripled up while Essertel took a big hit to his stack.

Preflop Cooler Sends Guinand's Stack Soaring

Level 3 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Victor Guinand
Victor Guinand

Victor Guinand was heads-up from the big blind against a lone opponent in the small blind.

The small blind had already had a bet of 2,200 in front of him and Guinand raised to 9,000. His opponent responded by going all in for approximately 20,000 and Guinand quickly called to put him at risk.

Small blind: A?K?All in
Victor Guinand: A?A?

It was the best-possible scenario for Guinand, and the Q?10?3?6?8? runout kept his rockets out in front to claim rest of his opponent's chips.
