"Spades Woulda Been Ugly"

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Toby Mathews raised to 3,100 on the button, and both Jonathan Taylor and Chris Moneymaker called. The trio checked on a flop of {2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}, the turn was the {k-Clubs}, and Taylor checked again. Moneymaker tossed out 4,500, Mathews called, and Taylor folded.

The river was the {j-Hearts}, both players checked, and Moneymaker announced that he had a jack, showing {j-Spades}{7-Spades}.

Mathews winced then showed {a-Spades}{6-Spades}.

"Spades woulda been ugly," Moneymaker said, grinning.

Lee Childs Eliminated on the Bubble

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
Lee Childs (Day 1) - Bubbles
Lee Childs (Day 1) - Bubbles

Lee Childs open-shoved for around 10 big blinds on the button, Chris Moneymaker called in the big blind, and the hands were tabled.

Childs: {10-}{10-}
Moneymaker: {a-}{3-}

The 2003 WSOP Main Event champ surged into the lead on a flop of {3-}{3-}{6-}, the turn was a meaningless {4-}, and just for overkill, Moneymaker made quads when the case tre completed the board.

Childs is eliminated just shy of the money, while Moneymaker added to his chip lead.

Bubble Theatrics

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Jonathan Taylor raised to 2,600 in first position, Chris Moneymaker called on his left, and Toby Mathews three-bet to 12,600. Lee Childs happily got out of the way, no doubt hoping for more fireworks, and Taylor obliged, four-betting to 34,000.

Moneymaker snap-mucked, and to Childs' chagrin, Mathews folded as well.

Taylor Up, Taylor Down

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Jonathan Taylor raised to 2,600 on the button, Ted Mathews defended his big blind, and the flop fell {8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. Mathews check-called a bet of 2,400, the turn was the {k-Clubs}, and both players checked.

The river was the {10-Spades}, Mathews led out for what looked like 7,000, and Taylor called. Mathews showed {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a pair of eights, but it was no good against Taylor's {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a pair of aces.

An orbit later, Taylor raised to 3,200 out of the small blind, Chris Moneymaker defended, and the dealer fanned {q-Spades}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Taylor continued for 3,000, Moneymaker called, and the turn was the {j-Hearts}. Taylor fired another 5,700, Moneymaker called, and the {8-Clubs} completed the board.

Taylor checked for the first time, Moneymaker bet 7,000, and Taylor snap-mucked.
