Team USA Takes a Hit

Jennifer Harman
Jennifer Harman

Jen Harman is one of the world's top limit hold'em players, but she had a very short stack to work with at the feature table. She got that short stack in the middle holding {A-} {6-} on a {k-} {k-} {4-} flop. Team China's Johnny Chan called Harman with a better ace, {A-} {9-}. The board blanked out {2-} and {Q-} to eliminate Team USA from the captains' table.

Not to worry for Team USA. Harman's limit hold'em skills are so strong the she is being substituted back into the game in place of Erik Seidel at one of the outer rtables.

Grind It Out

We feel like we're still a long, long way from determining the final table of this event. There are still at least six players at each of the five tables in action. Perhaps when the game gets back around to Pot-Limit Omaha the pace of play -- and the eliminations -- will pick up.

Cheerleaders

Team Australia, down to one table left, clustered around their chosen champion, Jeff Lisandro, and led a few rousing renditions of "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oy, Oy, Oy".

Mike Matusow, not to be outdone, stood up from his table and tried to lead the crowd in some pro-American cheers.

Bring Out Your LHE Specialists

The game has switched back to limit hold'em, prompting a flurry of substituations. But on the last hand of no-limit hold'em, Team Greece was eliminated from the captains' table by Team Vietnam. Team Greece got the chips in with {Q-} {J-} on a jack-high flop. Men "the Master" Nguyen, the captain of Team Vietnam, called with {A-} {J-}, the same pair of jacks but a better kicker. The board blanked out, eliminating Team Greece from the feature table.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...

"Gone, gone, gone," said Dave Ulliot. Not entirely, but he's pretty close.

Things have gone just horribly for Team Australia today. On an outer table, Steve Topakas of Team Australia got the the chips in on a queen-high, two-club flop against Team Brazil. Topakas tabled {A-Clubs} {j-Clubs} for an overcard and the nut flush draw. Team Brazil showed {Q-} {10-} for top pair. The turn and river blanked out, eliminating Team Australia again. The Aussies are down to just one remaining table, where David Saab is currently representing the team.

"Who made the most side bets, Team Australia?" asked Mike Matusow. Nobody responded.

Extended Break

The tournament is on another extended break. Right before the break, Team Vietnam was eliminated from one of the outer tables. It was the first Team to lose a table other than Team Australia.

During the break, Phil Hellmuth came running into the room wearing a bath robe over his clothes. We're not sure what that's all about, beat fellow Team USA member Chris Ferguson walked over the Hellmuth and started vigorously rubbing Hellmuth's arms.

Team Australia Running Horribly

Team Australia has been eliminated from a third table. Jeffrey Lisandro got all in with a pair of nines and found himself up against ace-king. The flop was clean, but a king on the turn was a terrible, terrible card for Team Australia. When the river blanked, Team Australia had been eliminated from the captains' table.

Team Australia only has two tables left in action. Each other team still has five.

New Game!

The PLO round is over. For now. Done-zo, as my colleague GeorgiaPeach would say. The game has switched to No-Limit Hold'em.
