On Break: Anatoliy Zyrin Explains His Notepad Technique

Level 30 : 1,200,000/2,400,000, 2,400,000 ante
Anatoliy Zyrin
Anatoliy Zyrin

Anatoliy Zyrin has been walking around the table whilst on break, paying close attention to the chip stacks of his opponents, and also writing them down on a notepad that he's been updating all day.

We spoke to him on break about what he's been writing down.

"I don't do it all the time," he explained, "It's my first time. I just had this idea today.

"It's helping me to concentrate and keep focussed. It's not just for chip counts, but I need to do something to keep me busy. And with a lot of short stacks it really helps."

Gofman Chips Up Before Break

Level 30 : 1,200,000/2,400,000, 2,400,000 ante

David Laka raised from the cutoff with {q-Spades}{j-Spades} to 5,000,000 and Aleksandr Gofman defended his big blind with {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Gofman check-called a bet of 3,000,000 from Laka and the turn was the {7-Clubs}.

Gofman checked again and Laka bet 9,800,000. Gofman moved all in for 58,600,000 and Laka folded.

Players are now going on a 15-minute break and will return shortly.

$1 Million Guaranteed 8-Max: Filatov Finding His Form, Clark Crushing

Level 30 : 1,200,000/2,400,000, 2,400,000 ante
Daniel Clark pictured during MILLIONS Russia, looking forward to the partypoker Caribbean Poker Party in November

There are now just 25 players left in the mix for the 8-Max title here at MILLIONS Russia, and all three partypoker Sponsored Pros we updated you on last time are still in the hunt.

That may be no surprise when it comes to Johnny Lodden (1.1m) and Richard Dubini (1m) as both partypoker Sponsored Pros were around average last time. But Anatoly Filatov was the other Sponsored Pro and we have seen him recover from a far worse position.

"I had 300,000 after doubling up with {Q-}{9-} moving all-in and being called by {K-}{3-}, I hit my queen. I then built up and won again all-in with {A-}{7-} called by {9-}{10-}. I now have 835,000."

With blinds at 20,000/40,000 now (don't forget that we're playing the Button Ante format) the partypoker Sponsored Pros may be surviving, but none are thriving like partypoker Qualifier Daniel Clark. Having won a package into the Main Event of MILLIONS Russia by winning a $109 satellite, he has cashed already this festival to mean that even after re-entering this $2,500-entry $1m-guaranteed 8-Max, he is freerolling his trip. Clark now has plenty more than most, sitting behind 3.3 million in chips.

The board ran out {k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{4-Spades} with Gofman's set of sixes enough to secure him the double up.

Merzhvinskiy Takes Two

Level 30 : 1,200,000/2,400,000, 2,400,000 ante

Aleksandr Merzhvinskiy raised from under the gun and Aleksandr Gofman defended from the big blind.

Right after David Laka raised to five million with the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Merzhvinskiy defended the big blind with {K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Both players checked the {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop and the {Q-Spades} appeared on the turn. Merzhvinskiy bet 6.8 million and Laka called before the {9-Diamonds} river completed the board.

Merzhvinskiy bet 21.5 million and claimed the pot without showdown after forcing a fold from Laka.
