Wong Wins From Cheong
Macau regular Sam Cheong will be a familiar face to many who have played a poker tournament in Macau as he plays nearly every event. Today is no exception and Cheong is in the thick of the action as we arrived at his table, though we are not sure for how much longer after the following hand played out.
We caught the action on the river with the community cards spread with over 7,000 already in the middle of the table. Sitting in the big blind Cheong checked the action over to Wong, who slid out a bet of 2,250 to send Cheong into tank mode.
It is difficult to put Cheong on any hand, just because he is happy to make a move if he thinks a player is weak (or he thinks can get away with it) and his range of hands is wide.
Cheong chose to put Wong to the test and check-raised to 13,250 in total and it was Wongs turn to tank. It was a big call as should he make it and lose Wong would be left with just 8,000 in chips and he thought long and hard before eventually throwing in the call.
Cheong rolled over for top pair, but this was not enough to beat Wongs turned two pair and the Hong Kong player flipped over to take the pot and a big bite out of Cheongs stack. Wong climbed to a little over 40,000 in chips while Cheong slumped to a measly 5,300.
