Day 2 Chip Leader Joins the Rail as Ernesto Panno Takes the Chip Lead

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Hugo Spangenberg
Hugo Spangenberg

The Day 2 chip leader Hugo Spangenberg had a rough first couple of levels. He lost nearly half his stack in small pots and now his day has come to an end at the hands of Ernesto "Flacco" Panno, who just recently finished 4th in the PokerStars Festival Uruguay Main Event.

We caught his final hand on the flop with the board showing {7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and roughly 40,000 already in the pot. Action was on Spangenberg first and he checked over to Panno. Panno put out a bet of 22,000. Spangenberg reraised, making it 100,000 to go. Panno quickly moved all in and Spangenberg called off the rest of his stack which was about 240,000.

Panno: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}
Spangenberg: {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

The turn was the {3-Spades} giving Panno the unbeatable full house and that would be the end for Spangenberg who hit his flush on the {6-Clubs} river anyways. With that the Day 2 chip leader hit the rail leaving the field with just 11 players.

Lampropulos Felted by Flopped Quads

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Maria Lampropulos raised to 18,000 from under the gun and Alejandro Lopez three-bet to 58,000 out of the small blind. Lampropulos went into the tank for nearly a minute and eventually shoved. Lopez called to put her at risk and both players tabled their hands.

Lampropulos: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Lopez: {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}

Lampropulos had the preflop advantage with the larger of the two pocket pairs and Lopez needed a lot of help from the deck in order to send Lampropulos home. The flop came {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} to give Lopez quads and leave Lampropulos drawing perilously thin. The {8-Diamonds} on the turn meant Lopez had a lock on the hand, and he took the pot to eliminate Lampropulos after the meaningless {4-Clubs} fell on the river.

Lampropulos Staying Afloat

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Maria Lampropulos raised to 16,000 from the cutoff and Martin Crosa called from the big blind.

Both players checked the {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop and the {3-Hearts} turn.

The river brought the {K-Spades} and Crosa checked. Lampropulos bet 14,000, Crosa folded, and she took the pot.

The previous LAPT champion began Day 3 as the shortest stack, and while she still has her work cut out for her, she has more than doubled the stack she took out of the bag at the start of the day.

Lampropulos Doubles Again Through Franco

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Christian Franco raised from under the fun to 13,000. Action folded around where Maria Lampropulos moved all in from the big blind for 35,000 more. Franco called it off and the two turned up their hands.

Lampropulos: {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Franco: {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {7-Clubs}{J-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and that earn Lampropulos a much-needed double as the shortest stack in the tournament.

Viola Applies Pressure

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Andres Viola and Maria Lampropulos were heads-up on a board of {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and there were about 45,000 chips already in the middle. Lampropulos was in the big blind and facing a decision for 36,000 from Viola, who was in the small. After about a minute in the tank, Lampropulos called.

The {8-Clubs} fell on the river and Viola fired out a bet of what looked like 81,000, sending Lampropulos into the tank again. This time, she ultimately folded, and Viola took the pot.

Leo Fernandez Clipped in Cooler Spot as Cristian Fernández Takes the Lead

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Cristian Fernández
Cristian Fernández

Hugo Spangenberg opened with a raise to 15,000 from middle position. Leo Fernandez called on the button before Cristian Fernández called from the big blind.

The flop came {J-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Spades} and Cristian checked to Spangenberg who bet 30,000. Leo called before Cristian made it 100,000 to go. Spangenberg thought for a long time, then folded before Leo moved all in. Cristian quickly called for less than the shove, about 250,000, and their cards were turned up.

Leo: {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Cristian: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The board completed with the {8-Diamonds} and {6-Spades} and that secured the doubled for Cristian Fernández with his set over set while Leo Fernandez was left with just about 10 big blinds.
