Smith Smarting After Andy's Aggression
We had an interesting hand over at Table 1 just before players went on that last break. It began with Andy Frankenberger opening from under the gun and getting two callers — Danny "Middleboro" Smith sitting to Frankenberger's left and the big blind.
There was about 5,000 in the middle when the flop came . The big blind checked, then Frankenberger fired a small bet of 800. Smith made it 4,000 to go, and when the third player folded, Frankenberger hesitated for a bit then reraised to 10,500.
That sent Smith deep into the tank for about a minute. "If I show you a great fold, will you show?" he emerged to ask, but when Frankenberger offered no response Smith again sat in contemplation.
Finally Smith folded his hand, and indeed showed his cards — ! Frankenberger slid his cards face down to the dealer, collected the chips, and soon thereafter the break had come.
Smith and the others were still talking about the hand as Level 10 began, with the debate concerning whether or not Frankenberger could have had a better set, ace-king, or some sort of combo-draw.
In any event, the focus is now on what lies ahead, as the players are settling in for the last three 40-minute levels of Day 1a.
