Joanides Doubles Through Markholt

Thomas Joanides started the day among the chip leaders but has since slipped mightily, falling all the way to 7,300 chips.

That changed when Joanides doubled through Lee Markholt after Markholt opened to 6,000 on the button. Joanides shoved from the big blind, Markholt tossed in the extra 1,300 chips and the hands were shown down:

Joanides: {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Markholt: {J-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

The {2-Spades}{9-Spades}{K-Hearts} flop gave Joanides a lead with a pair of nines. The {6-Spades} on the turn missed Markholt and after a meaningless {4-Hearts} fell on the river, Joanides was awarded the pot.

Joanides is still far from the top, but with 21,000 chips he can breath a little easier. Markholt is now down to 60,000 chips himself.
