Mortensen Squeezes Double Up

Razz

Carlos Mortensen completed and Matt Glantz decided to make the call after bringing in. On fourth, Mortensen checked, Glantz bet and Mortensen called off the last of his chips. The boards fell:

Glantz: ({8-}{2-}) / {K-}{A-}{K-}{5-} / ({9-})
Mortensen: ({7-}{9-}) / {8-}{7-}{6-}{3-} / ({2-})

Glantz flipped his river first and improved to a nine to leave Mortensen needing to squeeze. He got down low and squeezed out a deuce to make an eight and double up. He's up to 225,000.

Mortensen Mucks Part II

Omaha-8

This has not been a great round for Carlos Mortensen. On an {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop, Ian Gordon checked, and Matt Glantz bet. Mortensen and Gordon both called. They repeated the action on the {8-Clubs} turn. The river brought another low card, the {5-Diamonds}, and Ian checked again. Glantz bet, and Mortensen folded as he grimaced and slammed his last 85k down in front of him. Gordon called and showed {7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} to take the low half. Glantz took the high with {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. for aces and eights.

After the hand, Marco Johnson told Gordon, "If you check-raise there, he folds." Glantz agreed, adding "unless I have a wheel, and then you can fold to the three-bet."

A hand later, Mortensen raised to 80,000, and in the big blind, Richard Ashby three-bet to get Mortensen's last 5,000 in the middle. Time to turn 'em up.

Mortensen: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Ashby: {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}

The board fell {j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Hearts}, and they split it up, keeping Mortensen on ice for the moment.

Omaha-8

Action folded to Eugene Katchalov who raised it up from the small blind. Carlos Mortensen defended in the big blind.

The flop landed {A-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Katchalov fired a bet. Mortensen made the call. The turn was the {9-Spades} and Katchalov didn't hesitate to release another bet. Mortensen thought for a moment before calling again as the {9-Diamonds} paired the board on the river.

Katchalov fired for a third time in the hand but Mortensen wasn't interested as he sighed and open-folded {4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Mortensen didn't like the river but he was already behind as Katchalov flashed {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{2-}{K-} for a full house.

Mortensen is back to creating intricate structures with his chips - perhaps to disguise that he's down to his last 380,000 chips. Katchalov is up to 1.5 million.

Too Much Heart

Omaha-8

Eugene Katchalov raised under the gun, and Carlos Mortensen called. Matt Glantz joined them from the big blind to see the {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop. Glantz checked it to Katchalov, who put out a bet. Mortensen called, and Glantz gave up. The {9-Hearts} turn earned another bet and call, and Katchalov got a third street of value from Mortensen after the river fell the {j-Clubs}. Katchalov tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} for the flopped nuts and scooped the low-less pot. Mortensen flashed a queen-high flush on its way to the muck.

They tangled again in the next big hand, which is on its way...

Gordon Gets One

Hold'em

Matt Glantz raised, and Ian Gordon three-bet from the big blind. Glantz called. The flop came [qh7h7hd], and Gordon bet out. Glantz raised, and Gordon flatted. Both players slowed down on the {5-Clubs} turn and checked to the {3-Diamonds} river. Gordon bet on the end, and Glantz paid for showdown. He regretted it when he saw Gordon's {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and sent his cards into the muck.

Hold'em

Marco Johnson raised it up from middle position before Nick Schulman moved all in for his last 120,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Johnson made the call.

Schulman: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Johnson: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

Schulman dropped his head when he saw the bad news and it didn't get any better on the {A-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Spades}{K-Diamonds} board. Johnson made two pair to eliminate Schulman in 7th place for a collect of $78,654.

Ashby Back

Hold'em

Matt Glantz raised it up from early position before Richard Ashby three-bet from the small blind. Glantz made the call.

Ashby fired bets on all three streets on the {10-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} board with Glantz calling until the river where he gave it up. Suddenly Ashby has recovered from the short stack and is back in contention with 600,000.

CHUFTY Triples

Hold'em

Nick Schulman raised under the gun, and Marco Johnson three-bet on the button. Richard "CHUFTY" Ashby, the new shorty after Schulman doubled, called all in from the big blind. Nick called as well. The flop came out {9-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}, and Schulman check-folded to leave Ashby all in against just Johnson.

Marco showed {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} to Ashby's {10-Spades}{8-Spades}. The {8-Clubs} on the turn promptly brought Ashby a pair, and the {6-Diamonds} river saw him safely tripled to 325,000.

Queens Good For Glantz

Hold'em

Matt Glantz opened from middle position before Carlos Mortensen three-bet on the button. Ian Gordon cold-called in the big blind with Glantz also making the call.

They took a flop of {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Gordon checked to Glantz who fired a bet. Mortensen raised to force a fold from Gordon as Glantz made the call. Both players then checked the {2-Clubs} turn before Glantz fired on the {5-Hearts} river. Mortensen made a reluctant call but mucked when Glantz showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

Glantz is at 2.55 million and a clear chip lead as Mortensen slips to 575,000.
