Andrei Khosh Bags Just Under a Million Chips as Max-Capacity Day 1d Ends
The final flight of the record-breaking Event #3: The Big 50 - $500 No Limit Hold'em saw over 8,000 entrants take part in a tournament that put even the capacious conference centre at the Rio to the test. Late registrants patiently waited to fill the gaps left by those busted from the sell-out Day 1d and eventually everyone keen for a shot at a WSOP bracelet and a piece of a truly phenomenal prize pool had their chance to play. With the final numbers still being tallied, it is definitely safe to say that this sell-out final Day 1 puts the total number of entrants well over 25,000.
Tonight’s chip leader is Andrei Khosh, who bagged a huge 970,000 chips, in front of other notables such as Kevin O’Donnell (773,000), Rick Trigg (663,000), Max Brown (496,000) and James Dempsey (350,000). With thousands of players’ chips to log, full counts have been announced as available later this morning. Other players making a bid for the unique Big 50 title who fell before the final whistle were John Phan, Maria Konnikova, Blair Hinkle and a valiantly double late-registering Maria Ho.
The next step for today’s chip-baggers on the way to claiming the $1,000,000 guaranteed first prize is to conquer Day 2d, beginning at 10:00 on Tuesday, June 4. Tomorrow we’ll be covering Day 2c, also beginning at 10:00.
