The Chad & Jesse Poker Show Episode #9: Japanese Vlogging Superstar Masato Yokosawa

Level 29 : Blinds 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

On the latest The Chad & Jesse Poker Show straight from the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), Chad Holloway and Jesse Fullen welcome renowned Japanese vlogger Masato Yokosawa, AKA “World Wide Yokosawa.”

While players in the United States might think folks like Brad Owen and Andrew Neeme has the biggest vlog followings in the world, that distinction actually belongs to Masato, who regularly clears 600K views on each of his vlogs!

The Japanese vlogging sensation opens up about his start in poker, what inspired him to start a vlog, and how he’s managed to turn it into a smashing success with the help of a creative team. He also talks about his desire to win a WSOP gold bracelet, how Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth are perceived in his home country, and what the future looks like for poker in Japan.

Chad and Jesse then do a new "Calling the Clock" segment in which they offer quick two-minute dialogues for topics on “The Board.”

Savill Doubles Through Rodrigues

Level 29 : Blinds 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Sterling Savill raised pot to 420,000 and was called by Mike Linster on the button and Michael Rodrigues in the big blind.

Rodrigues checked to Savill on the 5?A?J? flop and he bet his last 55,000. Both Linster and Rodrigues called.

Both players checked on the A? turn and then Rodrigues bet 375,000 when the 5? completed the board.

Linster folded and Savill showed A?K?7?2? for trip aces with a king kicker. It was best against the A?Q?7?4? of Rodrigues for trip aces with a queen kicker and Savill doubled up.

Savill Getting Short

Level 28 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

After Michael Rodrigues raised to 300,000 on the button, Sterling Savill three-bet to 950,000 from the big blind, leaving himself 500,000 behind.

Rodrigues called and the flop came J?10?6?. Savill now checked and faced a bet from Rodrigues that would put him all in if he were to call.

Savill couldn't make that call however, sending his cards to the muck and preserving his final half million chips.

Slow Action

Level 28 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Action has slowed considerably since the start of this level, with many pots being taken down preflop or with a single bet on the flop.

In a recent pot, Loni Hui raised to 200,000 from the hijack and was three-bet to 750,000 by William Kopp, who was on the button. Action folded back around to Hui who quickly folded.

After John Goyette raised to 350,000 on the button, Joseph McCarthy moved his entire stack forward from the small blind. Goyette called off for just under 800,000 total.

John Goyette: A?K?10?9?
Joseph McCarthy: A?A?8?5?

The 8?2?5? flop gave Goyette a diamond draw that he called for immediately but didn't get on the 4? turn. The river was red, but it again was a heart with the 9?, ending Goyette's day in 7th place.

McCarthy Doubles Through Goyette

Level 28 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Joseph McCarthy limped from under the gun and Michael Rodrigues limped along from the small blind. John Goyette checked his option from the big blind for a three-way pot.

Rodrigues checked to Goyette on the 2?A?A? flop and he bet pot. McCarthy then shoved for his last 620,000, which got a fold from Rodrigues but a call from Goyette to put McCarthy at risk.

Joseph McCarthy: 5?4?3?3?
John Goyette: A?10?6?4?

The 2? turn kept Goyette in the lead with trips, but the J? river gave McCarthy a flush for the double up.
