Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2024 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.

Today sees the start of Event #8: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (8-Handed) here at Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas.

This three-day event gets underway at 12 p.m. local time with late registration open for 12 levels. Players are allowed two reentries in this event. There will be 15-minute breaks every three levels, with a 60-minute dinner break at the end of Level 9 (~6:30 p.m.).

The starting stack is 50,000 chips with the plan for Day 1 to play 15 levels. Day 2 resumes at 12 p.m. Saturday and levels increase to 60 minutes.

This is a brand new event for 2024 offering fans of Pot-Limit Omaha a different price point to compete for WSOP glory.

Eskenazi Drags a Pot Early

In the first level of play, Scott Eskenazi opened to 500 from the dealer button and the big blind defended his hand with a call.

The flop came 9?K?7? and saw both players check.

On the turn 2? the big blind checked and Eskenazi bet 1,000 which his opponent called.

The river was the 8? and again the big blind checked. Eskenazi bet 2,200 and his opponent folded after a brief consideration.

In a four-way pot on a board of 3?6?Q?4?, Darren Elias bet 2,000 and Yong Kwon called from the next seat as the two other players folded.

Elias checked on the 7? river and Kwon bet 9,000. Elias called, only to muck as Kwon rolled over Q?Q?8?5? for top set that turned into the nut straight.

In an interview with PokerNews, actor James Woods made a passioned plea for the Poker Hall of Fame to induct his longtime friend, "Miami" John Cernuto.

It's that time of year again for the poker community to begin discussions about who should be the next to reach poker's most elite club. The WSOP Poker Hall of Fame will begin taking fan nominations for the one-person Class of 2024 next month, and then the living members of the HOF will vote on a winner based on the top fan vote getters.
