Moneymaker Runs Into a Straight
After an open to 1,100 by a player in middle position called by the cutoff, Chris Moneymaker in the small blind squeezed to 6,200. The middle-position player called, as well as the cutoff.
On a flop of 2?9?7?, Moneymaker continued for 5,200. He was only called by the middle-position player, who bet 8,000 on the 5? after Moneymaker checked.
The 2003 WSOP Main Event champion eventually called, then led out for 50,000 on the A?. His opponent called for his last 21,500 and flipped over 8?6? for a straight.
Moneymaker mucked his cards, but players at the table asked the dealer to reveal them as it was an all-in and call situation.?So the dealer took two cards from the muck and turned over Q?J?.
Moneymaker seemed a bit stunned by this hand for a few seconds while counting his stack before moving on to the next hand.
